3rd Trimester

Felt like an idiot in Target today

I figured I should pick up some maxi pads today and found myself staring for way too long at the great variety of pads one can choose from.  Considering I haven't worn one of these bad boys since middle school in the early 90s, I was a wee overwhelmed.  Why can't they just sell some that are labeled "postpartum pads" so I can avoid trying to decide what absorbency, shape, thickness, etc?

Me thinks I may be overthinking this one Stick out tongue

Re: Felt like an idiot in Target today

  • They should have a postpartum bucket. That would be much easier I'm guessing.

Blech, I hate pads. Not looking forward to that aspect at all.

  • Haha! this happened to me in Target the other day with DH! We contemplated for 5 minutes on what type of pad we should buy.  In the end DH asked, "Why don't we just get you some Depends, that way it covers all bases!"
  • i did the same thing the other day!! ?i was like, "i have no idea what to get. ?long, extra-long, extra-thick.... might as well just put a pillow between my legs." ?in any case, i bought the target brand because they were uber-cheap.
  • HA! I did the same thing this weekend! I was going for the Overnights and then I noticed that they had the "Maximum Protection" ones and thats what I wanted to get....but of course they didn't have it! I

  • This is kind of why I haven't bought any yet.  I'm overwhelmed by the selection, and it's been so long since I've bought pads.  Yuck.  Maybe I'll just send my Mom out to pick me up some when I leave the hospital!
  • Smallest package of Always Overnights.

Then a small pack of big but thinner ones.

You can always get more. I overbought last time.

  • I had no idea what to get either. I couldn't remember from last time. Why don't they make multi packs like tampons??? Oh, it's going to be so fun!

I went right through my Overnights. It was not pretty some nights.

  • If it helps, you're going to want full-coverage, wings included. Thickness doesn't matter much, but some brands rate them like "overnight" or whatever to indicate high absorbancy and that is what you'll want, at least at first. I got Kotex thin overnights with wings.

I don't think they make anything bigger! What did you use? I was paranoid so I changed often! And they have changed the Always Overnights from what they were 2 years ago. I hope they are better!

  • LOL! I went for the overnights with wings! CVS brand. I just felt dumb buying pads while pregnant!!!!

  • Steal as many pads from the hospital (and the disposable undies- my nurse gave me a whole box) and use those first.  After they ran out, I used the Target generic version of Kotex overnights and they worked just fine.  When those were gone, the flow was light enough for regular Always Ultra Thin with wings.

Be forewarned if you're BF- for the first couple weeks, you'll get a nice gush of blood during/after you BF or pump.
