Trouble TTC

WW3TD: Help me decide!

Hi ladies! Hope you all are having a good week!  So I'm trying to decide if I should do an IUI or not in this upcoming cycle (should start AF any time now).  I'm trying to make this as brief as possible, so here are my stats:

- We are dealing with MFI and DH is currently doing appointments/testing (it's all taking forever). He got his scrotal ultrasound yesterday and although the tech is not his doctor, she pretty much said she didn't see anything (meaning a varicocele)...again she's not his dr, and that follow up is on 2/4/13, but sounds promising I guess.

- DH has been taking Fertility Blend for exactly 3 months now, so hoping his numbers are up, but no guarantee of course.  He also needs to get another SA done before his 2/4 uro appt, and I'm actually hoping he can go in tomorrow am.  Wishing I had those results already, would help with the decision. =

- I was waiting to do anything (IUI or IVF) until after all his testing/appts were done, but as of Jan 1st we have new insurance that covers 50% of IUIs (previously we were OOP for IUIs)...so I started thinking, hmm maybe we will try another IUI in the meantime?

- BUT, another issue is that DH might get offered a new job within the next week or so and we are on his insurance.  He would give two weeks notice at his current job, but that doesn't necessarily put us through the end of my cycle of being under his insurance (or even to the IUI time--might be, but I'm also a "slow cooker").

So ugh, am I crazy for contemplating doing an IUI?  Too many unknowns?  I'm just tired of waiting around and doing nothing.  And if we can get a BFP with an IUI instead of doing IVF, that would be amazing.  Okay, sorry so long.  Thanks for any input ladies!

Re: WW3TD: Help me decide!

  • I have not done an IUI yet so take my opinion with a grain of salt.  But, if it were me I would plan on using the insurance while you have it and go for an IUI this month.  Worst case scenario you no longer have the insurance come time for the IUI you can just switch and do TI (because that's basically what you would do anyway I assume).  That way if you can get an IUI for half the cost in time it would be worth it.  Especially if you get a BFP out of it!

  • I'm still new at this.. but I would go with the IUI.  Doesn't hurt to try, especially with the discount!  We are also dealing with MFI.  And they told us if the sperm wash didn't come out okay, they wouldn't do it and we wouldn't be charged for the IUI (just the wash).  Maybe if that's your concern, you could go into it with that?  Not sure if it would be a medicated cycle for you though, I guess that may be different then, since you'll be paying for the meds.

  • I say go for it hun! Would you be willing to do the IUI this cycle if you had to pay for 100% of it? If so then go for it and hopefully you will be able to get it half covered after all. I have high hopes for high numbers now for you!!!! Let me know what you decide!

Yeah, I guess we could end up spending $500-600 depending on what contracted rates we get billed at...hoping it will come in a little lower (so far a lot of my bills have come in lower than expected, but it's just random).  But I was quoted about $1200 for 100% OOP.  Also my RE does B2B IUIs, but I saw you posted the other day that with MFI it's suggested to only do one?  Makes sense to me, so I need to talk to him about that and that would lower cost.  Anyhow, I'm totally rambling, sorry.  As for his last SA, he had 5 mil count, 45% motility, 5% morph.  The last B2B IUIs I did he had 2 mil and 1.8 mil post wash count (super low).

Ideally he can get his SA done again asap and get those results and see where we are at.

Ugh, MFI sucks!!! As you know. =(  Hope your DH's counts were good today!  FX for you!

ETA: And meant to say for all his SAs and pre-wash IUIs his count has been in the 5-8 mil range. =(

Well that is low.  Can you get the asap results on another S/A to see how fertility blend has helped?  Because with those kind of numbers I don't know if I'd still do IUIs.  But if the vitamins have improved his count to around 15-20mil pre wash then I'd try.

And yes, to keep costs down and dealing with MFI I'd just do one instead of B2B.

And thanks for asking - DH's count today was great and post wash was best ever!  12mil post wash with 89% motility (69mil pre wash and 32% motility).  I don't know if it was having his abstain time a little longer, adding CoQ-10 months ago, or just we finally hit a good sample since it's always such a roller coaster but I've very happy and he's walking around like he's god. LOL

I was hoping to get his SA done tomorrow am, but we are currently in a texting fight about that, lol, and it doesn't look like it's going to happen.  So I think it's going to have to be next week due to timing, sucks.  I know, I'm concerned it's too low too...not sure it's worth the $500-600 and most likely let down after the 2ww.  Good to know about the one IUI vs B2B.  Thank you as always for your help, you rock!

Sooooo awesome about your DH's counts!! And lol, too funny he thinks he's a God!!  Sounds like something my DH would do. =)  GL!!!!!!!  So excited to hear your outcome!

Hit "quote" on the post you want to copy.

BUT if it's part of one that has a lot of quotes, like a back and forth between me and Futurehuber then hit quote but then delete everything aside from the:

    [/quote Katib77] and what I said then [quote/ katib77]

The brackets that says quote and has my name is the start and end of my quote.  You can erase anything in a quote (example, if I ramble too much and you just want to quote one sentence) but as long as the start and stop brackets are there you're cool.  If you screw up, the bump will say you can't do it.

Thanks for the tips on quoting Smile I must have deleted the first quote bracket when I tried it before.

And yes, sorry FH for temporarily highjacking the thread! I will leave it alone now. I hope you can find out the new SA results very soon. I'm sorry you have been waiting so long.
