Infertility

I hate flying...and am worried I'm going to F this up :/

This is kind of a random question, and probably just me and my unnecessary paranoia, but I'm sure some of you ladies can relate, as we've come this far, we don't want to screw anything up!

Anyways...our IVF #1 is next month. ER the week of 2/11, so ET likely sometime 2/15-2/18. That puts me at finding out if we have a BFP around the week of 2/25. I am scheduled to travel (via airplane) on 3/6 for a conference. I'm stressing out that I will be traveling so soon after finding out if we are BFP or not. If we are (FX), it's okay to fly on a plane right? I mean, people do it every day that are 5-6ish weeks prego (and have no idea they're prego!) Will I need to take precautions with the body scanners?

I guess my main concern is that I get pretty anxious flying...hate it...would rather claw my eyes out. So...I'm worried that my anxiety is going to stress my body out and affect the pregnancy. Furthermore, I'm speaking at the conference, which I don't usually stress out about, but ya know...there's always a little nervousness with speaking in front of large groups. So...I think I am just stressing out about stressing out, but...needed some advice. Hoping to just stay calm and do some relaxation exercises before the trip. Is something like Xanax or Valium okay to take prego? Should I look into that, or just suck it up and face my fears? I have gotten better about my anxiety with flying, but...still get pretty nervous esp during take off and landing. I just don't want to F this up...

Part of me wonders if I should have not committed to speaking at this conference. But another part of me thinks I need to continue to live my life as normal!

Thanks for listening to my random rant :)

TTC #2 March - August 2015 = all BFNs

Prep for FET #1: Aug 2015: found "mass" in uterus on saline sonogram; scheduled a hysteroscopy to remove.

Sept 2015: Hysteroscopy: mass turned out to be scar tissue(?), all removed. Recheck saline sonogram 2 weeks later showed "stuff" still in uterus (more scar tissue? remnants from surgery? Will see if clears with a period). Recheck saline sonogram 1 week later: all clear! Start Lupron and Estrace. Follow up u/s 2 weeks later: uterine lining only 5mm, add in patches. Follow up u/s 1 week later: uterine lining = 4.3mm (argh!), stop estrace and patches and start estradiol injections twice/week. Follow up u/s 2 weeks later: uterine lining = 5mm :/ Instructed to keep on estradiol injections and recheck in 5 days = lining still at 5mm. Need to make a decision - go for it? Or toss in the towel w/ this cycle and start all over again next year with a new protocol. Decided to go for it as we had 17 frosties; what have we got to lose??

  • Well my RE's office said flying is ok as long as I wasn't gone for an extended amount of time or going overseas. However, as for taking something to relax you on the plane if you have a BFP......ehhhhh, I wouldn't but you might want to check with your RE if you face this situation.

  • Poor Girl..you sound like me when it comes to flying lol.. I would think the flying would be ok, maybe not the anxiety meds.. I would definitely just ask you RE about it and see what he recommends.. Good luck! And remember, your safer in a plane than in a car! At least I try to tell myself that over and over as we take off..:)

    *Siggy Warning*

TTC since 11/11. 10 months natural= 10 BFN 8/12 First appt with RE 4 semen anaylsis later 1.9 million count, 21% motility and very poor morphology Me- bloodwork, 2 ultrasounds, HSG exam =I'm fine / 3 months of testosterone treatments = 3 more BFN DH bloodwork after 3 months treatment= no change/

RE says we can continue with hormone treatment for MIF, RE says we can try IUI but doesn't expect the results to be good based on severe MIF/

IVFw/ICSI Cycle #1 1/11/13 Antagonist Protocol IVF Cycle #1 Canceled due to poor response and lead follicle problems. 1/18/13 started Provera to get body back to baseline / take a break to re-evaluate and recoop finances

IVFw/ICSI Cycle #2 4/13/14 Supressed with Estrace for 7 days. / Started injections 4/22/14. Ultrasound on 6/6 confirmed a singleton pregnancy and a heartbeat, although my iradic breathing would allow us to get the rate.  Second ultrasound measured great and got to hear he heartbeat!! 176 bpm Graduating to my OBGYN with our next appointment with them being 7/23/14

  • I'm allowed to travel once I get a BFP or BFN. I see no problems flying. Personally, I always opt out of the body scanner but I don't think that's a necessity. I'm just kind of old fashion like that I guess. I would worry about the stress though... is there any other way to get to the conference? I believe that Xanax and Valium are both dangerous during pregnancy Sad   but I'm not positive on that. If you need to fly I would just do whatever you can to minimize your stress level - listen to relaxing music, meditate, eat junk food, whatever you can! If I were you I would still go and feel fine about it if that helps any. I'm sorry you have to think about it. Like IVF isn't stressful enough!
  • So Xanax and Valium aren't *great* during pregnancy....to be taken on a routine basis, but doing it for this should be ok. Talk to your RE or your OBGYN. It's probably the lesser of the evils if you're going to get that stressed out over flying and speaking.

    Good luck!

Testing found positive cardiolipins/APS, now on lovenox and intralipid infusions
Transfer of 2 5-day blasts and (FINALLY) BFFP!! 1st ultrasound shows two sacs and two HB, but one is sluggish, almost expecting vanishing twin Subsequent ultrasound confirmed vanishing twin, but my other Little critter looks fantastic!

  • You'll be fine to fly.  I know you want IVF #1 to work, but don't put your life on hold for it.  Maybe a Benadryl for the flight?
Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • Xanax and valium are unsafe during pregnancy and can increase the chance of cleft lip and palate. Both are category D.  Diphenhydramine (benadryl) is category B.

While this is true, this info refers to chronic use of any of this class of drugs. Again, my suggestion would be to discuss it with your RE, but at 5-6 weeks preggo, before organs start to form, and doing 2 or maybe 3 doses, probably acceptable risk if it's acceptable to you to take the risk.  Good luck with your trip and your speech and ESPECIALLY your cycle!

  • I taken dramamene mean for my flight anxiety before it is motion sickness medicine overthecounter and my doctor says it safe to take when it's pregnant! Just an idea

  • Thank you guys for all the advice! I will talk to my RE and probably just try some relaxation techniques, listen to my music, and zone out as much as I can. I just hate that I can't listen to my music during take off and landing, which is when I need it most! It's just the feeling of being utterly out of control that makes me anxious. Kinda like IVF! Ha! Just gotta go with the flow and whatever happens, happens :)
