When did you guys do your first haircut/when are you going to do it?  DS is about 9 months and his hair is getting super shaggy over the ears and he's kind of got this rat tail thing going on in the back.  I am thinking it may be time for a haircut but 9 months seems SO young.  What do you guys think?

    We got M's first hair cut right before his 1 year pictures.

    G is 15 months, and I (lightly) trimmed his bangs before Christmas.  He has a full-on mullet, just with the way his hair grows, and we need to do something about it sooner than later -- but he a squirrely kid and I can't see him sitting still while a stranger cuts it, so we have not done anything yet.

    Is there some way you could lightly trim the part in back and buy yourself another few weeks?

    We did Ds at home at 13m. Used the longest attachment on my DHs electric trimmer. D thought it was funny. Now he needs another one and won't sit still!

    Lucas got his hair cut at 12m, but probably started needing it around 10ish months, but I waited until we were back home for the holidays to do it.

    Sandy, that's a great idea but I have like the shakiest hands on the planet.  I'd probably either cut it crooked or accidentally cut off his ear or something.  Maybe DH can try it for me.  But it sounds like we aren't too far off from what the "usual" is.  So maybe we'll just suck it up and go soon.  Definitely before his birthday, that's for sure.  Thanks for all the input!

    I think when it's time.  Landon's hair is so curly it doesn't need to be cut though. :)

    If it was straight it would be long.

    I am also not the steadiest hand, but I used a tiny manicure scissors (don't laugh) after his bath...it was a little crooked, admittedly, but after a few days you really could not tell. 

    I like Junebug's idea for the trimmer with the guard...but I think G would be freaked out by the buzzing noise...

    I gave DS a haircut at 4 months at home - he got his 1st real haircut at 9 months because it was really shaggy. 

    ETA - we took him to a kids hair place and it was great. They were wonderful with him and didn't scare him at all.  They also took pictures and made a big deal about the 1st hair cut.  It was kind-of fun.
