Torturing my baby - anyone else feel this way

UG. Some days it feels like I'm making my baby miserable more than I am comforting him. Diaper change- hates it, screams

Bath? Hates it, screams the whole time.

Changing his clothes... hates it, screams the whole time.

Sigh.... feel bad since a lot of his wake time is spent doing one of these activities....

  • I think it will get better. My LO used to scream during all of these things but doesn't get as upset anymore. Do you think it's from being cold? Maybe try upping the temperature in your house.

  • I know how you feel.  My LO needs a bath today and I'm putting it off because she hates them & will scream for most of the time :(

  • DD hates diaper changes too. If we can make it through without screaming, it's a serious victory.

I def feel like I'm torturing her whenever I have to put her down and she screams. I know she's fine and safe, but it feels bad as a mom. Sometimes though, I need to pee myself and I have to put her down... Sigh.

    Hang in there.

  • That might be it.

  • I know what you mean! It will get better though.
  • I feel the exact same way! LO HATES diaper changes and will scream the whole time and sometimes afterwards. He doesn't hate bath time as much now that he's in the bath tub and not doing sponge baths. I seriously hope he stops hating diaper changes so much. I thought it was cold, but it has warmed up here (70's!) and I don't think that's why he's screaming anymore.

  • Wipes warmer will help with the diaper changes and try a warm washcloth across LO's chest and tummy during bath. Both helped us tremendously. LO hates being cold.

  • I felt like that this morning when I put LO in his swing so I could scarf down a bowl of cherrios, he cried the whole time for me to hold him, I felt terrible.

  • I know how you feel! One thing that has helped dramatically with Camille's bath is to turn the shower on hot water only which allows the bathroom to get really steamy (like a sauna). She absolutely LOVES baths now. In fact, I've given her baths to soothe her when she's extra fussy! I think it's the sound of the shower coupled with the steam that relaxes her.

She screams when I change her clothes too - especially when I have to put something over her head!!!! I've tried singing to her as I'm changing her diaper or clothes...sometimes it helps and sometimes it doesn't.

This! I set her down to eat when I haven't all day and she screams. I feel so bad. Sometimes I finish making my food and can eat it while holding her and sometimes already poured cereal sits on the counter for a while.

  • Our LO H-A-T-E-D diaper and clothes changes..she is getting better and only screams sometimes now. She does ok with baths until her head gets wet, and then she is inconsolable until you get her dried, clothed, and stick a bottle in her mouth (we do baths right before her last feeding of the night). It could be that your LO is getting cold, but if isn't, hang in there...hopefully they'll get more accustomed to them and eventually they won't scream bloody murder every time you have to change, clothe, or bathe them.

  • Don't forget putting LO into carseat. Know it's for her own safety.

  • My son screams during all those things, too.

One thing that's helping a bit is that I recently put a mirror on his changing table, and maybe half the time it distracts him at least down to just fussing.
