increased discharge in 3rd tri?

In 1st tri I had a ton of that long sticky discharge.

Then in 2nd tri it tapered off a lot, and I would say I was even pretty dry down there.

I'm a little over 31 weeks, and the past 10 days or so I have had increased disrharge.  It's white, not clear, does not smell, and I am not irritated.

At first I thought maybe it was because I have been having weekly internal ultrasounds, and my body was getting rid of the KY they use to lubricate the probe.  But lately it's been happening daily.  This AM I am exactly 7 days past my last internal ultrasound (have one this afternoon) so it was pretty clear it was true discharge, and not from the KY at this point.

Has anyone else noticed an increase in disrcharge during their 3rd tri?

I passed my fFN test last week, so I'm not worked up about it.  Just wondering if anyone else is having a similar experience.  (fFN is a fetal protein test they do on me every 1-2 wks due to preterm contractions. It can alert them to early labor.)

  • I've been having this, too!  I was thinking about whether to call the OB or not... glad I'm not alone.  Sometimes it feels like a trickle and I run to the bathroom to check, but I don't think I'm leaking amniotic fluid.

  • Could be an infection. If you are concerned ask for an internal swab. But honestly it's probably just your hormones. Totally normal.

  • Absolutely.  I learned that towards the end of pregnancy, your body sends extra white cells down there to rid the area of bad bacteria.  As a result, there's more discharge.

Ah, this makes sense as the cervix starts to change in 3rd tri.  I'll mention it when I see my regular OB on Friday.  But assume it's normal.  Just annoying.

    Thanks!

  • I'm also having increased discharge as of this morning.  Glad to hear I'm not the only one!
  • Me! Me! I mentioned it at my appt yesterday and my OB said it's totally normal and it's the increased hormones.
