I had my DD tell me when she needed to poop, and I would put a diaper on her. After she pooped we would go in the bathroom, put the poop in the toliet ("cause poop belongs in the potty"), and then have her flush it. After about a month, when she would ask for a diaper, I would take her to the bathroom and have her sit on the toilet. I kept some books in there for her and would read or sing songs to her while she sat on the toliet. If she pooped she got rewards and excitement. If she didn't I would put her diaper on, and leave her alone so she could poop. Eventually she got the hang of it.
VERY normal to have this issue. Very, very normal. She'll prob out grow it. For us, potty training was so easy she did it herself. But poop was a whole different story! We rewarded w candy for a poop in the potty. A gummy bear, or m&m, or something like that. We had a little song we'd sing to help her relax. I'd let her be with me when I went to the potty and she loved singing the song to me! LOL But for us, I think the candy was key. Once she connected poop in potty with a treat she was sold; and the headache of poop-training is now a distant memory.
I've tried all those things. Candy, diaper when she needs to poop, her flushing, her watching me poop, etc, etc, etc. She is absolutely terrified of it. I'm going to let it go for now as she is only 26 months old and let her take the lead. Potty training was a breeze for her so the pooping part I thought would be too. Thanks for the suggestions.

From what I have read from in many posts is that most kids will pee in a toilet easily enough, but have issues pooping in the toilet. Trust me, 26 months is not that old. DD1 just completely PT'd (no diaper at all, not even at night) in the past month, and she will be three in March. We used mini MMs for whenever she used the toilet. If candy isn't working for poop, she may not be ready to go without a diaper yet.
My son will be 4 in May and we still have a problem with pooping in the potty. We have tried candy, sticker charts, making him clean it himself (which he thinks is fun), letting him sit in it (which he doesnt mind), took him to toys R Us and let him pick out any truck he wanted but told him he couldnt open the box until he pooped in the potty.
AFter a month of staring at it on the counter in the box, he told me to take the truck back to the store!! UGH!
I am SOOOO tired of cleaning poop out of his pants too.
He goes to preschool and they made him go home one day because he pooped. The teacher said we should use school as a reward and maybe that would work for motivation.. No such luck.
If you find something that works, please post or private message me!!

My son isn't 4 til August but pretty much all of this. He goes to daycare though so they don't send him home for pooping thank god... we cannot for the life of us get him to tell us if he has to go or even to ask for a pullup or diaper. Tonight MH was finally like, we need to take something away and not let him have it until he poops... for now that thing is going ot be ice cream...he only gets it once or twice a week but I'd give it to him every night for a couple weeks if it would get him over the hump...
my dd is 28 months and it took a good month for her to get down #2s - now it doesn't worry her - although we did have to up the prize for those - rather than juat an M&M (for #1) she gets a little mini chocolate santa - that's enough motivation for her!!
