I have an opportunity to buy an infant car seat with 2 bases for $40 bucks. I looked up the brand and it's $198 new, so I'm like "GREAT DEAL!".
Well, I'm trying to figure out what other stuff I need, car seat and stroller wise. I know we wont be using the infant car seat for ever, but I have no idea how long I will need it....
So basically my questions:
Would it be wiser (in your opinion) to just by an infant car seat with a "matching" stroller (so that the car seat can snap into the stroller)?
Or should I just stick with the infant car seat, then the next car seat for when the baby is older and a regular stroller??
I know its always about preference, but I have no idea what my options are to even have a preference lol....so any help is appreciated, so for the amateur knowledge lol
Re: Stroller/Car Seat Question
Which seat are you going with?
Do most strollers have this attachment available? That sounds like a good idea, just because I'm not sure how much going out we'll be doing, but would love to at least have the option to!
its a Baby Trend.
Perfect! I didn't know there was such a thing as a "snag n go". That sounds perfect for us, because I'm not sure if we will use a stroller, or how much at that. I will hopefully be able to wear our baby when we are out and about, if baby allows. But I don't want to end up stranded at home because I didn't know my options.
Pretty much all the ones sold here in England do but I am not sure about the US. I know they are beginning to become more popular over there so I imagine they are available! The Quinny Buzz and Britax B-Agile have those over here so I would think they would over in the US, too!
That is a great deal on the carseat! IMHO I would go to a place like baby's ru us and look at everything. See how everything is easy to use for you. I liked Baby Trend at first to but then noted on the car seat that to buckle them in you have to allign both buckles that go into the area between the legs (FTM here lol) and the there were other things that were difficult for my weak hands to use. We went a total of about 8 times to look and try out everything they had. Plus, depending on the size of your vehicle you might want to see how they fit in the back seat. We did this and noted some don't fit as well as others.
Good luck!
Some infant car seats are up to 20lbs and some are 30lbs. $40 is a great deal so I'd take it. As far as a stroller.... buy the snap and go to use with the infant seat. It's super cheap and light weight. It's really all you need in the beginning. I put my DD in the regular stroller once she was sitting up on her own. I had gotten the travel system and I hated the graco stroller. It was heavy and super loud on walks around our neighborhood. We wound up purchasing the Baby Jogger City mini and I couldn't be happier. We'll be purchasing the double soon because I love it so much. It's light weight and can be used as a regular stroller for shopping, etc. or you can lock it and use it like a jogger.
I didn't register for a convertible car seat, and I should have because they can be expensive. I recieved so much at my shower that I never really used so I regret not registering for it. For that I suggest the Britax. It is super easy to take in and out of the car and to change the height of the straps. The graco is cheaper, but you have to take it apart to change the height of the straps. I changed my daughter over around 11 months to the convertible car seat, but she is super tiny. I have friends that switched over earlier and some that only used the convertible. The britax is good from 5lbs - 40 (i think)
I'd go with the snap and go frame if you can. My travel system stroller is so awkwardly large and it doesn't navigate through stores well.
Also that's a great price.
Thanks everyone, you have been so helpful. I nearly forgot to check and see if it will fit in my car! Luckily she's coming by tomorrow to let me see if I like the way it works, etc.
Thanks for the recommendation for the convertible car seat too!! I started to look at them and got overwhelmed lol
Yeah, its less than a year old, no accidents. She listed a bunch of other things as well, she just doesn't need it anymore. It's from a family friend so I trust it more than if it was just a stranger.
I agree with the others that mentioned the snap n go (here it is below)

We opted for that with our Chicco Keyfit, verses the bulkier travel system, and it worked perfectly.
By the time DD was ready for her convertible car seat, we stopped using the snap n go, and switched her to another stroller.
When she was an infant, it was so nice to be able to move her in and out of the car without having to unstrap her. The SNG was lightweight, easy to fold, and easy to manuver.
We will be using it again this time around
