Teething and cold symptoms???

Ok, so LO has cut his two bottom teeth. They are visible but not up yet. He is Miserable. Crying non stop and refusing to eat : I know the runny nose is a symptom but is coughing? He seems like he has a cold but I feel like its the teeth. No fever or anything else. Just coughs and gags and has a snotty nose all of the time. Any teething suggestions? Nighttime is the absolute worst. Doesn't want me to put him down and he is not a hold me baby.

Re: Teething and cold symptoms???

  • If hes that miserable you can give him a tylenol. We do at night when our LO is miserable. During the day we try the teething tablets, Humpreys works better than Highlands brand. My LO never coughed with teething she did have a small fever when the tooth was cutting through. If it last another day or so maybe a call to the doctor.

  • This sounds a lot like our little guy. It seems like every time he cuts a tooth he gets a little cold. Nights are the worst. We rotate between giving him tylenol and motrin at night. They do wonders. Usually we don't do anything during the day. Good Luck!

  • This sounds like my little man. He is cutting all 4 top teeth and has a cold. Here is what we are doing for each.

    Teething:

     1. Ibuprofen (or tylenol if you prefer) in the morning at at bedtime when it is at its worst.

    2. cool teething rings and anything that he wants to chew on.

    3. Baby Orajel at night on his top teeth (this may also help him take a bottle), but just use a very little.

    Cold:

    1. Bath time--really helps break up the snot. (or you could do a steam shower--just turn the shower on and let it steam up the bathroom while you sit in there with LO).

    2. Little noses drops and the bulb syringe (he hates this, but it does help).

    3. Putting a pillow under his mattress so he is upright at night to sleep.

    4. Vicks on his feet.

    5. Getting him to drink as much as possible and keeping him upright as much as possible.

    GL!

  • We went through this last week. Barely ate, cranky as heck, wouldn't want to be put down at bedtime and like your LO he does NOT like to be held in general. Also, he barely ate and had cold symptoms but no fever. I thought he was teething but he still hasn't cut any teeth!
