DS has a blankly that was soft and he took a liking to it over his other ones. I assume b/c it was soft, blue and we used it a lot. He also has stuffed animals that he loves and there's always a fav or two that's changing.
DD doesn't seem to care too much at this point, just that its soft...I bought two little giraffe blankets and am encouraging them, she has a couple of lovies that she enjoys chewing but she really likes one of DHs cashmere sweaters the best...
Ds1 has a blanket he had when he was born. He started with 3 he rotated through that were soft and fluffy and now it is just the 1. He has about 6 fav animal but blanky is the most important.
#1 would take off her socks all the time as a baby and hold them. As she got older she started holding them near her face while she sucked her thumb. She then had to have a sock with her as a lovey. However not all socks were ok with her. We figured out which ones she liked and made sure we had some with us at all times and there was a pile in her cubby at daycare. For about 6 months now she, for some reason, took a liking to DH's Argyle socks. She lost one of the blue ones in walmart(we are talking Express expensive socks). So we let her have the other blue one. She now calls it bluie and it has become her lovey. No other socks will do anymore.

My toddler didn't seem to be one to have a lovie until my mom bought her this meerkat stuffed animal at the zoo last summer. Then at Christmas meerkat was replaced with a teddy DH sent her. Then a couple of weeks ago she got a "daddy doll" that now goes everywhere with us.
Currently going through our second deployment. Can't wait for Zoe to meet her daddy!
Her blankie and her Tigger. I had a little Tugger stuffie that she would play and snuggle with. Then we went to Disney and found a bigger baby Tigger and she's carried that around ever since. Her blankie has been since she's a baby unfortunately it's white!! I can't get her to switch it even if its a very similar blanket.
Note tigger pillow, tigger on the side her lovie, and white blanket

When we started sleep training we were given one of those soft bunny/blankie lovies you get at target. We had always stuck in in the bumper of her crib so she would always see it when put in there. We just always ha it around when she slept because she liked rubbing her face on soft blankets, etc. when going to sleep and she just became attached. She has a few other stuffed animals and a soft doll that she sleeps with every night, but the doll and her bunny she always wants with her. With DD2 we got her an owl lovie and a different soft doll and are gonna do the same thing.

I think we gave DD her wuvies when she was around 6 months. One is a small flannel blanket with ribbon tags on the border the other is a hand me down. It's a yellow, fleece lovey with an animal head. I can't figure out if its a giraffe or what but she pulled it out of her toy box and wanted it. We would always hold them when we nursed or she got a bottle. And then after she weaned she would snuggle with them when she got her milk. When she goes to bed she balls them under her chin or she sleeps on top of them. Both are one of a kind...I'm hoping if DS has a transition object its one that could be replaced easily. Aden anais makes some that have the satin edges.

DS has a lovie. I gave it to him around 3 months old when I noticed he was chewing on burp rags. He took to it right away. We bought two other exactly the same so that we could rotate them out and always have a clean one on hand. Plus it's nice to have 3 in case he ever loses one (which he has).
If your child is really attached to something I highly recommend buying exact same back ups and rotating out (so they don't know the difference between one or the other) - when they are older and you're in a frantic search for a lovie, you'll be happy to have a back up. Especially if you lose one, you might not be able to find a replacement (for example, DS's lovie is no longer made - people are selling them on eBay for $75!).
