Home from ER and totally bummed...

So after my ER this morning, my doc came in and told me that according to my b/w on Sunday, I had a surge in progesterone (Thanks, nurse, for not telling me this!), and that she recommended that we freeze the embryos, rather than going through with the transfer this week. I know progesterone is supposed to start right after ovulation or retrieval, and mine started too soon. I also had a progesterone surge early on in my cycle while on Lupron. WTF? She said this could really hinder an implantation in my lining. I don't really understand this, since aren't we supposed to be on all this progesterone to keep our linings thick? I am so confused and upset. Hopefully I will hear from my doc soon, but I was just wondering if any of you have had to freeze and do FET's because of this or have any knowledge about this situation. PAIF response:
I didn't have this happen, but a dear friend of mine had this. She of course was initially very upset because it wasn't what she had worked toward, or how she envisioned things. However, many clinics, hers included, have better success rates with FETs. They spend a whole cycle focusing on your lining and priming you to perfection for receiving those embies! The FET worked for her.

I can certainly understand your frustration in the change of plans.

I'm so sorry that this didn't go the way it was planned but from the bright side of the spectrum I'm happy to hear that they are looking at your cycle with best case scenerio eyes. I would be upset like you are feeling right now but after time I would be pleased that they were proactive in looking for the absolute best atmosphere for your embaby(s). ::hugs::

I had a freeze all too and we're only dealing with MFI. They were worried my lining would be out of sink because my body was trying to work as it's supposed to although I was on Cetrotide 2x per day. In the end, I was happy I had a freeze all because I developed moderate OHSS. If you get pregnant with OHSS, you have to endure the OHSS symptoms through the first trimester...yuck! Also, new reports show that since freezing and thawing has improved success rates are often as good as fresh cycle. Some REs believe an unstimulated ute increases your chances of success.

Super sorry for the disapointment, but as pp said there is a lot of studies showing a better success rate sometimes with FET. My dr. just suggested freezing some embies for that reason. Big hugs!

Thanks, Everyone! Well, I was right in my initial gut of knowing I stimmed a day too long. My follies got soo big and it caused such a rise in estrogen, that my progesterone had to work extra hard to produce the estrogen (according to dr.) My dr. didn't think the levels would jump so high on such a small dose of meds overnight. It's just so frustrating. Why do I always feel like I know more than the doctors?! I knew I should have triggered the night before I did. UGH! I am happy to hear that the success rates are really good for FET's, as it gives your body time to recover and heal from the overdose of all the stim meds.

I'm so sorry! What a disappointment. I am doing a freezeall soon, and my RE thinks it is healthier to transfer after a month or two of returning to "normal" following the stimming and ER. I hope you can find comfort in this, even though the news super sucks.

I have read that alot of fets are more successful because it gives your body time to relax after the er and all those meds and it helps them pick out the strongest embryos because they are the ones who survive the thaw. Good luck!
