Re: TTC Tuesday Check-In 1/22
What cycle are you in and where are you at in your cycle? 19 months, 9 cycles, CD 3 (no surprise though because our timing was totally off last month)
Do you have a question, brag or vent to share with the group this week?
Weaning is going to kill me, I swear. DS cried for a straight hour and a half yesterday afternoon because I wouldn't nurse, and we don't normally even nurse in the afternoons. DH and I came up with a plan to drop our regular feedings, but I am shaking in my boots now. (And I really have tried all the gentle weaning techniques, but he is just strong-willed, and we really can't postpone having #2 much longer to wait for him to be "ready.")
QOTW: Let's talk about reading. What are you reading now? What's your all-time favorite book? What is one book you never bothered to finish? What's your LO's favorite book?
I'm on a Raymond Chandler kick right now. Just watched a couple of his movies, so now I'm reading his books and working on Farewell, My Lovely right now.
My all-time fave is probably The Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver, but the Harry Potter series is right up there, too.
I couldn't get through Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man...It really pains me to leave a book unfinished, but I just couldn't make myself get though that one. I also read the Cliffs Notes of Heart of Darkness in High School. It's the only book I ever did that with, and I still feel guilt about it more than a decade later! LOL
DS loves a lot of books, but his faves are probably Beep, Beep, I'm a Jeep, and this book called "Babies" that we have. He always likes to point out the babies that are misbehaving in the book: the hair pulling baby, the key stealing baby and the messy baby are his favorites!
What cycle are you in and where are you at in your cycle? Cycle 6, CD 12(started charting again this cycle and started OPKs on Sunday).
Do you have a question, brag or vent to share with the group this week? Can't think of anything this week. Trying to remain optimistic as my FW approaches.
QOTW: Let's talk about reading. What are you reading now? What's your all-time favorite book? What is one book you never bothered to finish? What's your LO's favorite book?
I am currently not reading anything right now. I am interested in Gone Girl as I have heard really good things about it. My favorites are probably the Harry Potter series and Twilight series(yup I really like Twilight).
I started reading "To Kill A Mockingbird" 3 years ago and have only like 10 pages left. I don't know if there is a fantastic ending or not. Oh well.
A loves a lot of his books right now. He really likes "I Love You Through and Through" right now. He will pretty much sit down with any book and look at it.
popping in: I really barbara kingsolver. My all- time fav is The Poisonwood Bible. Have you read it?
Yes, but not in a long time. That would be a good one to re-read sometime this year. Have you read any of her newer ones, like Flight Behavior or the Lacuna? They're both on my to-read list, but I haven't gotten to read them yet.
Aww, thanks! I am hoping yesterday was just an off day and it won't be that hard every day!
BTW, you should totally read Gone Girl. It was so good, I had to go back and read Gillian Flynn's other two books too. She really draws you in.
I haven't been reading much lately. I'm a lazy bones
I really should go get a new library card so I can download books.
Yes! Library + e-reader = awesomeness! I read so much more when I don't have to worry about busting my budget on books.
So wait, you can download books to a Kindle or other e-reader from the libaray?? Why did I not know this?? That would save so much money. Gonna have to check this out.
I'm a big Barbara Kingsolver fan but I have to say I was a little disappointed in The Lacuna. It seemed rough and I never felt for the characters the way I did with her earlier books. I haven't read Flight Behavior. Of her books, I think The Bean Trees was probably my favorite.

Depends on your local library. I'm lucky that my library has a very extensive e-book collection, but I know some counties haven't gotten into ebooks as heavily.
Totally worth checking out though! My kindles have basically paid for themselves because I read more than 50 books last year and almost all of them were free.

Lots of bummer news today. We're essentially out this cycle - I went to my OB today because I've had 3 yeast infections in the last 4 months. She's going to double-treat me with diflucan, today and in 72 hrs, to see if we can knock it out. So I can't ttc during that time, which is right in the middle of my fertile window. Plus she's concerned about my shorter cycles since I used to be so regular.. Next cycle she's testing my day 3 FSH and if it's elevated then we need to go back to the RE instead of trying again on our own. I'm bummed, I just feel like we're never going to get B a sibling.
QOTW: Let's talk about reading. What are you reading now? What's your all-time favorite book? What is one book you never bothered to finish? What's your LO's favorite book?
Right now I'm reading a trash book - a Raymond Feist novel that I found in the discount bargain bin of Barnes and Noble after Christmas. It's not great, but it was $2.50 so I can't complain too much about it.
My all-time favorite book is possibly Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley. I found it in a bookstore outside Stonehenge the summer before high school and spent the rest of the trip reading it. It was a pretty magical experience for my young daydreamer self to be reading through a retelling of the Arthurian legend while visiting old castles and seeing the English countryside.
In high school I just couldn't finish Crime and Punishment. It's the only one I read the cliff notes for and like you GG, I felt so very guilty. But I just couldn't slog through it anymore.
B loves books (just like his mom
). Right now two of his favorites are Trains and Planes by Byron Barton.
GG - I'm sorry weaning is not a smooth process. The stubbornness that is so frustrating in your little one right now will serve him well when he gets older and it can be rebranded as perseverance.

I started opks yesterday. I'm really excited about this week because I feel like this is our month. At least I know we deserve for it to be!
I'm currently reading Babyville for the book club. My guilty pleasure is twilight series.
In college I CN Brand New World. I just couldn't finish it!
J is still obsessed with the MM book Halo sent him last year
Gg: I'm sorry weaning is going so poorly. I really hope he'll quit soon so you can get pregnant!
Kj: I am so sorry you are having to deal with that! Hopefully you can be cleared next month and it will be your month! GL! And keep us posted!
@kj - Hope you're feeling better soon, and FX for good test results next cycle!
@jbm - GL with the OPKs! I hope this is your month!
What cycle are you in and where are you at in your cycle?
I'm new at the TTC lingo, but we're in our first cycle of TTC, and I'm on CD14. FFmobile tells me that I O tomorrow. We were very fortunate to get pregnant with J right away, so I know that I am very naive about how difficult it can be to TTC, but I am hopeful!
Do you have a question, brag or vent to share with the group this week?
Like I said I'm really naive about this whole thing. When we got pregnant with J I was using an app on my phone that tracked my periods and told me what my likely fertile window was. So we just dtd every day that week and it worked! So that is kind of my plan this time around. I am curious about the OPKs though, so if I end up with a BFN I'll probably ask more questions about those. lol
QOTW: Let's talk about reading. What are you reading now? What's your all-time favorite book? What is one book you never bothered to finish? What's your LO's favorite book?
I'm not as big of a reader as I wish I was. There are too many other hobbies that fill my free time. Recently I've been listening to LOTR on Audible while I crochet. And at the same time DH and I are playing Lego LOTR co-op. haha Nerd alert, I know..
All-time favorite? This makes me wish I read more books because I really don't know.
I was a big reader in my teens and early 20's, but most of those were silly series books, not particularly worthy of the all-time favorite title.
For the book I never bothered to finish: A few years back I was into the Gregory Maguire Wicked Years books. I got to A Lion Among Men and just got bored with it.
LO's favorite book: He loves the "Elmo's Big Lift-and-Look Book" that OSC gave him last year!
ETA: JBM - Yay!! lol I'm so glad he still likes it!
What cycle are you in and where are you at in your cycle?
Last TTA cycle. CD 27. Waiting for AF.
Do you have a question, brag or vent to share with the group this week?
I meet with the OB in 2 days. I'm so freaking nervous.
Also, I had a convo with my DH a couple of nights ago. He's still really on the fence about another baby. He's so worried that we're going to have something go wrong due to our age and my health. He's also freaked about how I'm going to mentally handle being home with two. I find this a little insulting because I think I did great with G. But, I think he's mostly worried because my pregnancy with G destroyed my health. I'm worried about all these things, too, but my desire for another is overriding my concerns at this point. I hope we're not making a mistake.
QOTW: Let's talk about reading. What are you reading now? What's your all-time favorite book? What is one book you never bothered to finish? What's your LO's favorite book?
I read so much that it's hard to pinpoint. Although, I haven't been reading as much lately. Just don't have a ton of time. Hmmm, I need to start a new book. I recently read Beta by Rachel Cohn. It's another YA dystopian sort of book. I liked it quite a bit. Looking forward to the next in the series.
I started the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon years ago and made it through the first book. For some reason, I just couldn't finish the 2nd, Dragonfly in Amber.
G's favorite book right now is Giraffe's Can't Dance. It's adorable.
2nd cycle. Still not really charting, but I should o around next tuesday.
Do you have a question, brag or vent to share with the group this week?
I started back on weight watchers. I'm hoping to get myself healthy again.
QOTW: Let's talk about reading. What are you reading now? Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Because of TB I started reading HP this fall, now i'm hooked. I hate that I waited so long to read them.
What's your alltime favorite book? Probably My sister's Keeper.
What is one book you never bothered to finish? None, I always make myself keep going in hopes of it gettung better.
What's your LO's favorite book? Either a Caillou book from a set or Sandra Boynton's Barnyard Dance now. He used to love a picture book from Baby Einstein, but luckily he's over it now.
