C-sections

safe to have 5 csections?

Has anyone had more than four csections?I read one woman had nine in 20 yr.most were 3 yrs apart.I know healing takes a yr or two but I was warned with so much scarring can be bad for u and kill u.if anyone has more than four or knows anybody let me know.I had my 4th three wk ago.

  • Whether or not someone else has unfortunately has no bearing on whether or not you can. It is going to depend on your previous incision sites and their condition, how thin your uterus is, and honestly whether or not your OB thinks it is a good idea. I'd ask them.

ditto all of this.  My OB said that with each additional section, the risks increase, especially when you start talking about third and fourth ones. I know in the past, most OB wouldn't do more than three (at least that's what my mom was told), but now a days, a lot of it depends on what PP said.

    This.

I could have had a 5th c-section if I wanted, but we are done at 4 kids. I have minimal scar tissue for someone who has had 4 c-sections.

  • Again, this is something to ask your OB since everyone is different.  However, on average, my OB's office says they usually tell their patients to stop at 5.
  • Thank you for this post, I was thinking the same for myself. This will be my fourth in august. I just worry, but per the dr, I would like to know what I'm facing. Thanks again..
  • As all pps said, it varies.  I only had one and then VBACed. My SIL was told to stop after her 4th because of complications.  A good friend of mine was told to stop after her third because her uterus was not healing well after each. On here, I have seen people have 5, so it can be done but it certainly depends on your specific health.

  • My ob doesn't recommend it. She said she won't turn a patient away because things happen, but she doesn't recommend it.

  • I agree with PPs. My doctor cleans out the scar tissue each time, but I would personally not have more than four. Although we've decided this is our last one, so it's not an issue.
