Anyone else had this done? My mom had to take our dd in and they did her shots, etc. said we could take off formula etc, and that she could stand to gain a little weight, she was in 25 percentile. However they then wanted a urine sample. I had never heard of this and I have asked a couple parents that I work with and they didn't have this done with their child's 12 month. I called the receptionist and she said that this was a normal thing, that they like to have samples. Needless to say, dd did urinate and they put a cath in and she still didn't go. That sounds pretty awful for a 12 month old. They then told my mom that they didn't need to see her until April for her 15 month. Anyone have any info here?
Re: Urine test at 12 month check up....?
My LO had a bunch of tests done because she was not gaining weight...one included giving a urine sample. Maybe it was related to her weight?
They do regularly cath. in office. A nurse actually does it. but not without suspicion of something being wrong like an infection of some sort.
It's totally possible your office chooses not to. I'm just saying the one I work for and the one I bring dd to do it in office. We got lucky once so far and haven't had to utilize that service either!
Never had a pee test at at 12 month appointment. I just had my youngests one year appointment yesterday and the doctor didn't even look in the diaper! She just asked if there was any diaper issues she needed to look at. There aren't any, so she didn't look.
When my oldest had an ear infection at 11 months we did get tested for a UTI because of some of the symptoms and all they did was put a catch bag into her diaper. So instead of the pee going into the diaper, it goes into the bag. No cath necessary. We just had to bring the bag back once she had peed.

The catch bag is a poor test. It's easily contaminated and then results are null and void. A lot of offices won't utilize them at all and will only cath as a sure way to get proper results. I think that the pp who said the urine test they did on her LO "didn't work out well" prob used a catch bag,

Yes it's easily contaminated but I would request to do that first anyway. It's a lot simpler than doing a cath.

The finger prick was for anemia. The urine I didn't ask. They put the bag in her diaper, the first time got contaminated. The second time we got only a few drops in the bag (and a whole lot in the diaper) but they could work with it and just told us everything is fine.
