Since our LO's first birthday's are coming up faster than we know it, what are you planning on getting for them? I am searching Amazon for ideas right now. I feel like I was just doing this - oh, wait I was, at Christmastime! She still has toys we haven't taken out of the packaging! lol
Re: Birthday gifts
I got him a My Pal Scout. I gave my oldest the same thing for his 1st birthday and he slept with it for awhile. Since they're personalized with names, favorite colors, etc., I didn't want to make them share. Toys R Us was having some kind of Buy 2 Get 1 deal on them last year so I got it for about $10 and gave the other two to baby cousins for birthdays. That will be all besides his party and the playground we are building in the yard for them this summer. We have SO many toys and clothes in our house and Easter is right around his birthday (Mar 22) this year, too! When anyone asked for my oldest's party, I told them a donation towards the playground building project and some of them did just give like a cool cup filled with money. I hope they keep that in mind this time around, too!
The one other thing I bought for the oldest's first birthday was a toddler spoon with his name stamped on it from etsy. I thought it would be a great keepsake until it somehow went missing within about a week...
We are getting him a few outfits, books, shape sorter, and maybe a few other things. My MIL is going to get him plates, spoons, ect because he is learning to eat on his own. My grandfather will most likely chip in for a fun toy.
He doesn't need to much. He did pretty well at christmas and is still enjoying those toys.
Dd is getting a Mr Mrs Potato head deluxe set, some books, a monkey to put an ipod inside so she can play with it, and a ball pit. She got sooo much at Xmas I didn't think she really needed anything for her birthday! I picked up all her birthday gifts in before and after Xmas sales.

Ditto Scout/Violet.. DS got Scout for Christmas and loves him! So cute
DS also loves the FP Activity Table
He got a ton of stuff for Christmas, but I think we're going to get him the Little Tikes Cozy Coupe for his birthday.. I intentionally didn't get it/ask for it for him for Christmas because I was leaning towards that as a birthday present. But if other people start asking for ideas, I don't really have suggestions lol!

My oldest got two of these at his first bday party! I returned one, but it is something that he still plays with and little brother likes it, too. (and we never even put the batteries in it, so they might think it was even cooler if it made noises like it's designed to, haha)
Same for us DS loves Scout and even though he did get a lot of toys for Christmas, I really want to get him the Cozy Coupe..it will be fun toy for the summer for sure!
I am trying to tell people to to get him clothes, since he really doesn't have any summer clothes that will fit him, and he probably has enough clothes from now until it's get warm. BUT I know people are going to buy him toys no matter what I say. I am a little nervous, he got so much already for Christmas, and even though we are so grateful for everything our family and friends give us, I am not sure where to put everything!
DS also loves a tunnel we got from Ikea. One of the few toys he doesn't get bored of fast, I think that is totally worth getting.
We had 2 at a daycare where I worked. They were a huge hit. Hence, we had two. lol. DD already has a shape sorter barn and it is her favorite toy. Works well since we are a farm/country type family.

Us, too. We live on the family farm so I can't tell you how many barn and tractor toys these boys have! Oldest's first birthday theme was, of course, barnyard.
This year, my cousins bought some miniature horses to keep at their farm but haven't gotten all their stables done yet, so on the day of my oldest's birthday party, there was a miniature horse delivered to our barn! Talk about a lucky kid, who gets a miniature horse for their 3rd birthday?! One whose mom and dad don't have to pay for it, feed it, or groom it! We just get to go out and say hi to "our" horse until he goes to his real home, and my uncle has to do all that stuff in the meantime!
I made Olivia a Quiet Book for her birthday with pages on shapes, numbers, colors, a tic tac toe page, a dress up page, a maze and a page for drawing.
I had my eye on a set of vintage Sesame Street DVDs around Christmas time that we didn't buy - she looooooves the show so we'll probably buy that for her.
Other than those things, probably just get her some bigger clothes that she'll grow into. She's not at an age of "wanting" new stuff so it's a time for practical (read: lame) gifts that will bum her out when she's more aware of the gift concept.
I've been looking at quiet time book ideas on Pinterest. Most require way more sewing and cutting talent than I have. I did find a felt one that doesn't look too bad. How did you make Olivia's?

DD got the FP Animal Talkers Zoo for xmas and loves it. She doesn't get the concept all that much yet, but she plays with each of the animals and will tolerate (for a while) letting me put all the animals on the part that announces their name and sound. That and Violet are her 2 favorite toys right now.
