Wow... I just got off the phone with our lawyer - we finally have some answers and I want to scream, I'm so angry. The medical experts found the cause of my daughter's stroke. While I was in labor the nurses and doctors overlooked my daughter in fetal distress for 3.5 hours!! They found late decelerations and beat-to-beat variations on her fetal monitoring strips, causing major distress, resulting in her stroke. I should've had an emergency c-section at 1:00pm, but they didn't notice anything until 4:30pm. I know I should be relieved that at least we are getting some answers, but I can't help but want to kill these nurses and doctors! I cannot believe how they can be so carelss with someones life while delivering a baby!!

Re: Finally getting answers - VENT
I am so sorry to hear this. I have personal experience with medical personel scrweing up big time, so I get it on that level. Vent all you want.
BTW, that picture of your daughter is PRECIOUS!!!!!!
I am so sorry that the stroke seems to have been caused by medical negligence. It must be heart-wrenching to find out that it might have been avoided.
I am not a litigious person, and have never considered filing a suit, but once the initial emotions of finding out this news pass, I think you should consider suing the hospital and/or the personnel involved in your labor/delivery.
Yep, the fact that my daughter (almost 2) doesn't walk, barely talks, has hemiparesis, has therapy 3 times a week, sees multiple specialists every month is because of the nurse and doctor's f-up DRIVES ME CRAZY and it breaks my heart that she has to go through this (never mind what we go through). I've never sued anyone in my life but there's no way that I can't - this is my baby and they messed up really bad. My attorney is now calling for 2 law suits - 1 for the hospital and 1 for the ObGyn group. It's so scary that this happens during labor.
Thank you
It's from almost a year ago..., I need to post a newer one lol
Did you have to put a lawyer on retainer to look through the medical records? I'm just curious how that process would work, though I think we have the majority of my OB records.
I do agree though, that if their were obvious negligence you have no choice but to sue.
ALSO, we need an updated picture!!
Ok, Ill update her pic this afternoon
The attorney told me all the data they needed to review. They could've obtained her records as well, but it was much faster for me to go get them. I had to get all brain images - MRI's, MRV's, MRA's, etc., my labor reports that had the fetal montioring strips, her NICU report, my ob gyn records, any and all doctor's reports that she's been to, etc. It's a massive size file and it's really good to have copies of it all, even if it wasn't for legal issues.
As for my ObGyn, you have NO idea - besides their neglence to my DD's fetal distress, they didn't stitch my c-section properly causing a major infection. So, on top of the news about my baby, once I was discharged from the hospital, I had to go to a wound care center every other day for 6 weeks for my c-section wound to heal - all this while DD was in an isolation room in the NICU and all I wanted was to be with her. Then, one day in the NICU, I bumped into one of the ObGyn's from the group and told her my DD had a stroke and that my C-Section wasn't stitched properly and her reply was, verbatim, "You know what, Ally? I think you just don't like it when things don't go your way"!!!! Needless to say, I found a new ObGyn.
I see you are from NJ. Where? I'm going to need some major referrals for a good ObGyn for #2.
I live in Edison. To be honest, I'm not sure I'd recommend my OB/GYN. He's good enough for my routine care, but his bedside manner isn't the greatest. My boys are adopted, though, so I never needed him for anything major (just annuals/mamograms and follow-ups). I could ask around....
Where are you?
That pisses me off hearing this- those people need their licenses pulled; however, your daughter is so beautiful- her smile makes me melt away my anger a bit
I am sorry that you are going through this. I hope things go as well as possible.
This. I totally get that mistakes happen but the point of the lawsuit is to hopefully prevent them from happening again. Unfortunately, until you hit someone in the pocketbook, meaningful change is hard to come by.
I would totally sue in hopes that procedures are put in place, but also in hopes of some monetary compensation to help you out with all of the extra costs and therapies caused by their poor attention to detail. Good Luck and keep us posted!
