DH just called me from work and said his boss offered him the chance to go down our alma mater and do some interviews. It is a good chance to bond with his boss and would be fun for him to visit the place where we went to school, however, it is not until February 5th and I will be 38 weeks at the time. He will have to fly and stay overnight. Our concern is we just moved to a new town and I have literally no family and no close friends to call if something went wrong. I know the chances of Baby coming during those few days are slim, but at the same time it is our first, and DH and I took natural birth classes and he is my labor coach so I couldn't imagine doing it alone. Not to mention that my parents are over 4 hours away so if something went wrong I would literally be alone. So help me, ladies! I told DH I couldn't make the decision for him, but he is just as torn about it as I am and we don't know what to do...
Re: Level with me ladies...hubby needs to go out of town.
Hmm...I dunno then. I probably wouldn't be as comfortable with that set-up either. It's too bad they don't make this labor prediction thing any easier!
Me personally...I'd tell him hell no. I know most wives aren't as bossy as me though haha. Your baby is only born once and that trip isn"t exactly something that would trump you child being born. That's just me though.
I don't think so, it is during the week and both my parents work full time still. However, he just told me it would only be one night. He would fly out Monday morning and fly back Tuesday evening.
If it's only one night I'd say go for it! I don't know, it's only 48 hours basically. Even if you started labor he would most likely be back in time
I don't know, that's just me.
I agree with this. My DH travels a lot for his job. He won't travel 2 weeks up to my due date. However, a lot of the time his work is actually 2-3 hours away from an airport. So our rule of thumb is IF the airport is in reasonable distance, he goes. Even if he heads to the airport the moment you go into labor, sometimes it can take several hours to even get a flight out, so that is something else to think of.
That being said... labor typically takes a LONG time.
I personally would tell him to go, it sounds like its a great opportunity for him at work, or at least might open some doors for later.
But then I am Bias Dh is going to have to drive to get to me when I go into labour (it will take him 12 hours) and we both discussed it. And as important as we both felt it would be for him to be there, we felt it was more important for him to finish what he is doing for work/school. Because its one day and there are going to be a thousand more special ones where LO will remember if he is there are not opposed to this one. *Shrugs* But that is just how we choose to look at it.
