NBR: Cleaning Lady

Hello ladies! I haven't been on here for awhile, so I should probably introduce myself. I am a full time working mom (communications manager) with two kiddos (would like two more) and a side photography business. To help with the stress of life and allow me more time with my girls, I have had a cleaning lady come clean biweekly for the past year and a half. For the past six months I have been getting more and more disappointed in the job she is doing. It was never exactly what I wanted, but I kept trying to leave notes and help her know what I really needed done... to no avail. Right now I feel like I'm at a crossroads. Do I just get really blunt and leave her a detailed list or go ahead and look for other options. Since I live in the middle of nowhere, my options are very limited and she's supposed to come tomorrow, so I'm thinking blunt is my best option. Thoughts, lists, advice? I feel like I need to get my money's worth and I'm truly disappointed right now. Thoughts? TIA!

Re: NBR: Cleaning Lady

  • Why on earth would you not be blunt? Tell her nicely but firmly that if she doesn't follow your instructions you will no longer employ her.

  • Not sure why last poster was so ride but anyways. I know what you mean, we have a cleaning lady and I had to basically spell things out for her in the beginning. I don't think you need to be blunt per se by why not be there when she arrives and walk her through the house explaining Exactly what you want and why you werent happy last time/s. If it still isn't to your liking then I would tell her you need to find someone else.
  • yeah i would totally leave her a lil love note explaining what you expect and asking if she has enough time to accomplish these things?  maybe she's doing things that aren't in dire need of cleaning (ie dusting the same shelf that doesn't get very dusty)... we are still new to the cleaning lady thing - so i'm only now starting to notice things i wish were cleaner...  good luck!
  • I would be blunt. Blunt does not have to be rude. I would simply say something like, "I've noticed a few things that aren't as clean as I'd like them to be or aren't being cleaned as regularly as I'd like. Do you mind if we take a quick walk through and I'll show you what I mean?"

Then I'd simply show her and be honest. Is she there for a certain amount of time or just until the job is done? If it's for a certain amount of time, I'd ask if she needs more time to get things done the way you like them and be willing to pay her accordingly.

You have to remember, if you don't make your expectations clear and very obvious, how would she know what she is working towards?
