Graco Nautilus head slump solutions?

We just purchased the GN and I have seen in many reviews that major head slump can be a problem.  My DD (3.5 yrs old) will be in the GN only for about a ten minute drive in our second car coming and going to the sitter's (maybe twice a week).  She will not be in the seat long enough for a sleep (potential for head slump), but down the road this seat might become a primary seat in our main vehicle.  Does anyone have any solutions for head slump in the Nautilus?  Again, I don't see it being a problem now (but maybe down the road).

Re: Graco Nautilus head slump solutions?

  • I just got one a month or so ago, and my daughter fell asleep in it for the first time a week ago. Her head fell straight down and bobbed around at every turn. It isn't a safety issue, but I would think her neck would be uncomfortable on longer trips. We went out of town, and I switched out the Nauti for her other seat. She sleeps much better in it. Unfortunately, there isn't much you can do about it.

  • We have had problems with my DD falling asleep in this car seat and her head falls forward, but after several attempts we finally showed her how to sleep in the seat and she has now has no issues. We have also tried rolling up a blanket and putting it next to her shoulder, that only helps for a short period of time.

  • This happens about 50/50 for us, we have the Argos but it's essentially the same seat. I have thought about one of those neck wraps designed for kids, but I haven't looked into the safety guidelines about those in a car seat. It doesn't hurt her, and she usually picks her head up after a while anyway- I relate it to back sleeping during pregnancy, your body makes you shift before there are any issues.

  • I didn't know this was a "thing", but happens to my DD (almost 3) all the time. So interesting to hear others have this issue and could be related to the carseat. (We actually love the GN otherwise!)

How did you show her how to sleep in the seat? What "tricks" did you explain to her?
