Late Term and Child Loss

Intro

Hey ladies,

I just wanted to share my story,

On a Tuesday morning, 2 weeks ago, I woke up to use the bathroom and felt a gush of water. I started freaking out, not knowing what was going on. My water breaking didn't cross my mind, even though it was obvious now that I look back on it.  I went straight into my doctors office and he confirmed that my water broke on baby A and sent me straight to Labor and Delivery.

When I got to L&D, the Maternal Fetal Doctor came in and told us this could go good and baby A could regain fluid and I could continue with this pregnancy. Or it could go bad and I could develop and infection and baby A can deliver and the rest may deliver also. He sent us home, he told us he would rather me be in my own environment in my own home rather than the hospital to help with preventing infection... We were very optimistic after we went home.

On Sunday morning, I woke up with severe pain, and I had no idea whether it was contractions or what. I called the doctor on call and they told me to monitor it for a few hours and if it got worse to call back. Well, it did get worse so I called back and went to L&D again. As soon as I got there the doctor came in and I was in labor and I was in fact experiencing contractions. Within 30 minutes of being there, baby Jaxon was born. His placenta did not come out right away and they said it could take 24 hours. After 24 hours, still no placenta.

The Maternal Fetal Doctor came in and pretty much told us the only option is to deliver the other three, he said there was no chance of me making it to term due to the fact I was starting to develop an infection. He basically told me this could be my life at stake if we did not deliver, the infection would eventually get into my blood stream and could kill me if they didn't catch it.

So we had to make the hardest decision of our lives, to induce and deliver the other three. After 16 hours in labor, baby Emersyn, Jayse, and Ellee was born.

It was comforting getting to hold them. I wish this never would have happened, my husband and I would have loved having 4 little ones running around, but it is comforting knowing they are our angels now, they will never have to experience pain or sorrow.

Thank you ladies for letting me share, I wish none of us ever had to be here.

  • I am so so sorry for your loss.  While not quite the same, I have been there recently when we lost our triplets at 20 weeks.  It is uniquely heartbreaking to lose so many at one time. I also sought solace in knowing that our babies were together, and would not experience the pains or sorrows. I would gladly carry that burden for them.  My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your husband. I am rather new, but it has been tough finding resources etc for multiple loss.  One I would love to pass on is CLIMB (Center for Loss in Multiple Birth).  It has been the most helpful resource. The founder Jean is amazing, and the stories from others make me feel not so alone.  This board has also been a great resource.  Feel free to PM me if you would like to talk more. ((Hugs!))

  • I'm so sorry for your loss... I lost my son 2wks ago too.

That Friday morning, I woke up with tight belly. Being 21wks I figured maybe I needed to drink more water. That's what i did all day, but my discomfort continued. I went to the L&D ER at 11pm, after talking to my Dr's office. When hooked up to the contraction machine the measurements taken were all flatline, the baby's heartbeat was strong, I was just in horrible pain. So they sent me home and I was told if my bleeding got heavier or if I began to leak liquid to return.

I should explain at 12wks, I was told a massive blood clot had formed on the lower part of my placenta, which caused me to have 4 major bleeds. The Dr's had been optimistic that as the baby grew and the surface area of the placenta would increase this clot would stop bleeding, however worst case scenario the clot would sever the placental/uterus connection.

Well here I go back home @5am from L&D  and my pains were excruciating...and at 8:50am my water broke. I made it to the hospital just in time to deliver my Scottie. I spent the day with him & my family, which I am eternally grateful for... but it still doesn't make it easier.

My heart goes out to you & your husband...

  • I am so sorry for the loss of your precious Jaxon, Emersyn, Jayse and Elle.

We lost our triplets almost 7 months ago, in just about the same scenario. Father's day 2012 my water broke on baby A. I spent a week in the hospital hoping that A would regain fluid. Our MFM was very hopeful, we were very hopeful. I was prepared for a long stay in the hospital, having my husband bring in many of my at home comforts, to the hospital suite. A week later we were forced to make the decision to deliver all three of our boys. A decision no one should ever be forced to make.

I wish you peace and comfort during this journey. Be gentle with yourself. I found help through this board, a therapist, blogging and a few very close friends. Like a previous poster said CLIMB is a good resource, my MFM was excellent at helping me find other resources as well.

The women on this board are amazing and supportive. They have helped me through many dark patches over the last 7 months.
