Thoughts on Sleep Sheep

My 4 week old doesnt like to be put down to sleep. Therefore, I can barely sleep at all even when I've managed to get him to nod off and put him down, because as soon as I get into bed he's crying so I have to go and start all over.

The reviews are fantastic, but have any of you ladies used it, and what did you think? Worth it?

Re: Thoughts on Sleep Sheep

  • We have one and use it when we put DS to bed at night. He likes the wave option, but isn't a fan of the other ones. We received it as a gift. If I was buying something myself, I may purchase something that has more sound options and doesn't cut off.

While the sound calms him, we can't turn it on and expect him to stop crying completely. The only thing that will instantly stop him from crying? Hairdryer. Go figure! :-)

  • I like it, but the only drawback is the time limit. Ours can go for 23 or 45 minutes. If your LO needs the white noise just to fall asleep it works, but if they get upset when it turns off, it's a problem. I downloaded ocean sounds for my ipod and put it on repeat, so it can run as long as I want and a much cheaper option.

How long does it play before cutting off? My boy likes the fan in the bathroom. Maybe I should move his crib in there, lol.

I never thought of an iPod app. Good idea!

I use my iPod with the sound2sleep app. Lots of options and it lets you layer them.

  • We have one and I put the heartbeat one on for 18 mins and it seems to help my DD fall into a deep sleep and she never wakes up when it turns off.

  • DH and I were just discussing this. I'm not sure that it affects DS. During the day our iPod hooked up to his swing seems to work better.

    Henry Cavill...You're welcome!

  •  We have one and love it.  It was all that would get my LO to sleep.  Now we use it to block out all of the noise from the rest of the house since she goes to bed so much earlier than everyone else.

  • We were given one as a gift and used it every night for the first 8 weeks or so.  It definitely helped put DS to sleep - we used the heartbeat.  That said, using an iPad app would be much cheaper and would go all night rather than cutting out.  So I probably wouldn't have bought it myself.  Now we use a white noise app all night and play soft lullabies all night long.  We also found that for our ds the fisher price seahorse works AMAZINGLY in soothing him to sleep, but it only goes for 5 minutes.
  • I have the sleep sheep, and someone also bought me this sound machine https://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?sku=14643125&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&gclid=CNfJgdH1-bQCFY5lOgod1Q0A7A

At first I thought, "What will I do it two sound machines," but then I realized that the sleep sheep is great for downstairs and on the go, and the sound machine is great for bedtime. The sound machine has a timer OR you can keep it on forever, which is great!! The sleep sheep doesn't stay on long enough for bedtime. As soon as the baby starts to fall asleep, the sheep turns off and wakes her up. I love love love the sound machine!

  • There's a free app called white noise lite that has similar sounds. Nothing works for my son. We've tried the sleep sheep, the seahorse, baby got colic, and the app. The sleep sheep does cover noise though, so we turn it on after he goes to sleep.

  • Thought of getting the "sleep sheep" but then baby needed a humidifier and it is soooo loud and doesn't shut off until I shut if off. This works great.....and best of all it covers up daddy's snoring! Lol!
  • I personally wasn't impressed with the sound option the sleep sheep had...we got something similar, only it's a giraffe and it's the travel size (it has a velcro strap so it can hook to a stroller or something). It has the same 23 or 45 min option, but I like the sounds better. LO seems to like it- we had a hard time with her not wanting to go back to sleep after her 3am feeding, but now we turn the giraffe on after she's done eating and she usually goes right back to sleep.

  • Do you have a smart phone?  I'd try an app that does white noise and/or soothing sounds first.  We have a sleep sheep and it didn't do anything for my DS.  It's cute :)

  • White noise heled our son sheep.  We had an attachement for the pnp with sounds and vibrations.  once the batteries ran out and we didnt have any replacements, so my husband downloaded an app called relax and sleep ( beleive) for his phone. It was dozens of sounds to choose from-its free- and never shuts off...good option

I ended up downloading a free app called White Noise Ambiance Lite that has a bunch of different sounds to layer. So far, a combo of washing machine, airplane cabin and rain on a car seems to work well. I'm glad I asked here instead of buying the sheep!
