March 2012 Moms

oh MIL *sigh*

I guess she wants to make DD some clothes for the summer and fall. Oh good grief. When will she ever learn that the difference in our tastes are night and day? I have only kept 2 of the 10 outfits she has given DD. But she wants to know how big DD will be by summer.

Really? I can't really predict that. She runs about 3 months behind on clothing sizes. But the patterns are in not normal sizes and have measurements...like most sewing patterns. Well, your guess is as good as mine. She wants an exact answer and I can't give her one.

I know she is trying to do something nice but....

  • I completely understand, my MIL is constantly getting my LO things that she will never wear.  Last weekend we were in a store and she held up 2 outfits...."A" or "B".... We told her, definitely B, A would probably never be worn....she went back today and got A, because its "just too cute".  And she get the outfit, the shoes, the socks and the headband, all to match but in random sizes so they can't be worn at the same time.

She also called several weeks ago...what size shoe does LO wear...she's in a 2 right now...oh I found these leopard print sandals for her to wear this summer...oh great, she doesn't have any sandals (trying to be nice, knowing they are probably over the top and sandal aren't practical)....oh good, I got a size 5 that's the smallest they had....

Size 5, awesome I'll add them to stuff in the attic.

You are way nicer than I am. If they are from WM, I just exchange and get something we do need. If not or no tags, I just put in the Goodwill pile.

The only thing I have kept but will not use is the bag of ugly sweaters from when DH and his brother were little. Most of them were ripped and she sat here and fixed them. Or stained. None of them are anything I will ever use. But if she saved them for 25-28 years, I figured they must be important to her. I have no idea what to do with them. I would like to just give them back but don't want to be rude.

You could use them to make a really ugly blanket if you like sewing projects - at least it will keep LO warm.

Too bad she lives in town. my mil live a 4hr flight away. she's sent clothes. totally not my taste. i will dress dd up in the outfit, have her do something cute, snap a picture to mail to mil and put the outfit away. away could be donation or for keeps. i keep some things as mil and fil are really old and i want dd to have a cpl things when they are gone. they like the photos.

Does live in town but only 1.5 hrs away. But that doesn't change anything. If I don't like it, I don't even put DD in it. Not even for a pic. I'm mean like that but oh well. I have kept a couple things I did like and she wears those all the time. Like the overalls.

  • I have the exact same problem! My MIL is WELL aware that our tastes in clothing are different and she continues to buy the worst possible things. I usually do the polite thing and put her in the outfit, snap a pic, or even dress her in it if we are just going to their house, but if it's REALLY bad...it usually gets thrown in the donation pile and I play stupid when she asks me about it :) My problem is that my MIL has a ridiculous memory when it comes to stuff like that and she remembers what size and everything so she knows when she should be wearing it!!
  • Update on this:

She brought over a jumper she finished. It is fleece so DD will sweat in it. Our church has 200 people in a sanctuary meant for 150 (we are saving money to build a new one).

And.....the brightest lime green I have ever seen. Ick! MIL loooooove lime green, turquoise, etc. I tend more towards purples, blues, regular green, etc. Really dislike those super bright glow in the dark colors. Which she knows and just didn't care to remember I guess.
