DH and I picked Sophia Yasmine for our little lady. Everyone accept my mom (who loves it) is like, that sounds like an 80 year old woman, Either that or...you mean like Sophia Patrillo? Ah........is Sophia really that bad?

Your family hasn't spent time on the nest. Sophia is huge right now and they will quickly realize that they know many more babies/kids with that name than senior citizen TV characters.
Sophia is actually a somewhat popular name right now (or derivatives at least like Sophie), so your family just isn't up with the times I think!
It's a pretty name in my opinion and I wouldn't worry what your family is thinking or saying right now. (I mean, if you had a totally "out there" name I might urge you to reconsider!)
Sophia is very popular right now, so to me it doesn't sound like an 80 year old woman! We have 2 friends alone, who have named their babies Sophia in the past year! I think it's a pretty and classic name.
its your daughter...call her the name you love for her! There is a little girl who is about 15 months old who lives a few houses down from me whose name is Sophia ( they call her Sophie) and she is the most precious little thing. I think it is an adorable name!!
I like it - If it helps everyone hated DS name when we told them too (Oliver Dean). Now no one says anything - once the baby is born you won't *hopefully* hear another word about it!
I don't think it sounds old at all... I have met a couple of babies recently with that name and it's so cute!!!
I think that its impossible to have EVERYONE like your names so I always say "thats why everyone gets their own kids to name".... like people said above, they will get used to the name and love the baby. It only matters what you and your DH want!!
This is why we haven't told anyone our name options! I don't want to hear everyone's opinions... It's unlikely someone would say anything once the baby is actually here & named.
Yeah, we didn't pick it for popularity, we just love it!Yasmine means jasmine flower in 2 different languages that our families speak and we love that, too. People in our families have actually asked us why we don't use Yasmine as the first name...We just like Sophia a lot and its easier to pronounce. We are pronouncing Yasmine yes-mean, which many people screw up so we figured we're safer this way. Thanks for all of the encouragement and kind words!
Sophia is very popular now, so those people don't know what they are talking about! ?My MIL freaked out when I told her we were naming our boy Harry, which instantly made me fall further in love with the name!
1) I love the name Sophia, it's beautiful and feminine.
2) I will never understand why people feel the need to say negative things about people's name choices - if they don't like it, they should lie. It is totally pointless to say they don't like it, and it only ends up making the parents upset. I'm sorry.
Too bad for them that it's YOUR child and not theirs.
I love Sophia as a name.
This is why we're not telling family our names until the baby is born. This way, they'll feel guilty for insulting the name b/c it belongs to a cute little baby.
Re: So family hates the name we chose...

I think that's a beautiful name. Once they have a cute baby to associate it with, they'll quit thinking "Golden Girls", I'm sure.
My ILs are the only ones who don't like our name we picked out (Caden), but we just told them that was too bad and they'd have to get used to it.

Go through and tell them why you hate their names and why it wasn't on your short list.
