WCM ?

This may be dumb question, but is milk as filling as formula? If you transitioned to milk, is your LO eating a lot more solids, or has the milk basically replaced the formula? Just wondering, thanks :D

Re: WCM ?

  • The girls are actually drinking a couple of ounces more of milk then they did of formula, and are eating more solids.  I don't know that WCM is any more or less filling, but just as they grow their appetites will grow.  I also think the girls are going through a growth spurt as they will eat anything they can get their little hands on.

ETA - Since the girls are small, what we do is offer solids first and then at the end of the meal I put 8 ounces of milk in a sippy cup and offer it to them.  They drink anywhere from 1 ounce to about 6 ounces.  The cups go in the fridge and we pull them out again before nap time to let them finish them up.  Normally they drink 20-24 ounces a day, but by doing it that way we make sure they get a good amount of solids too.  We only offer water first thing in the morning and not much throughout the day, but again, that's just because they're small and if they're drinking something I'd rather it be something with calories.

  • I don't have the answer to your question, but last week or so I googled the nutrition facts of cow's milk vs breastmilk or formula.
Cows milk has a lot less fat.
Ive only given a couple ounces here and there to introduce, but I dont think I see any difference in his appetite, but like I said he doesn't get much..

My pediatrician said last week that a lot of mom's use olive oil whenever possible in cooking for their toddlers to help add fat in once they're on milk.  I also add milk to things whenever possible - if I'm making oatmeal that says to add water I add milk instead, when I make scrambled eggs for them I put in some milk and then add a little mozzarella cheese when they're done, stuff like that.
