I'm due Feb 8 and I'm 37 weeks 4 days.
This weekend my husband and I were in a minor car accident, no injuries, just need a new mirror on the car. But, we went to Labor and Delivery to get checked out, just in case. At the hospital, they decided to do an ultrasound to double check that baby was doing well. During the ultrasound, the tech showed us that our baby is not, in fact, a girl but is a BOY! Our last ultrasound was at 18 weeks and they said they were certain it was a girl. No ultrasounds since then because the doctor doesn't do them unless there is an issue. We already had the nursery decorated in lavender, and bought all pink and purple clothes which are washed and in the closet. We had picked a name and had lots of things monogrammed.
Has this happened to anyone else? It has been quite a shock. Luckily, our families have been great and everyone has sprung into action and bought all kind of boys bedding and clothes.
Am I the only one?
Re: Just found out, it's a boy, not a girl!
First of all, I'm so glad you, your husband, and your baby are OK after a car accident. So scary!
I have been thinking about this a lot just because everyone has gone CRAZY buying all kinds of girl things for us. What a crazy surprise that would be!
Healthy baby trumps all, of course, but man, that would be a LOT of last minute changes.
OMG!
So glad you are ok!!! What a shock i bet that was. On the bright side you have a little time to make changes. I can't imagine what your going through.
OMG, I keep worrying this is going to happen to us! Last ultrasound at 21 weeks and non since then.
I'm glad your family is helping out! This was why I didn't wash everything, just a few newborn outfits and sheets.
It's good you found out now--I can imagine your faces during the delivery if you hadn't!
Also glad it sounds like everything is OK from the car accidents!
Oh wow! #1 - I'm really glad that you and your H are ok!!!
#2 - This has been a lingering fear of mine since finding out, but I'm pretty sure there is no mistaking the boy bits in our ultrasound. I think this type of thing is becoming more rare, but I suppose mistakes do happen!
I wish I had more insight for you, but it's great that your family has been so helpful!! Also, I wouldn't worry about the colors... he'll never know the difference if you can't get things fully changed out right away!

You will always be loved & missed our sweet angel.
OMG.
I have had stress dreams that this happened. So you're obviously handling it better than I would.
I've heard of this happening before, but it's still pretty crazy.
Glad you're okay though!
even though i want a baby girl one day, i'd be pretty heartbroken if this baby ended up not being a boy because i've bonded with him and thought of him as a person with an identity and a name for months now. luckily this kid has NOT been shy in showing off the goods during ultrasounds, and there's no mistaking what's going on down there so there will be no surprises for us.
it would be so hard to adjust! you're handling it like a champ, i'm glad your family is being supportive!
most of all, glad to hear you, your SO and your baby are safe and uninjured.

Oh no! I can't imagine!!
I'm glad things are working out ok for you and everyone is helping out.
So sorry!
Oh man, I'm sorry to hear about the accident and the mix up. Kudos to you for not having a total meltdown. Even though I *thought* we were doing a decent job of getting some gender neutral items since this is our first and we plan to have more, when I look around the baby's room there is nothing but blue and green EVERYWHERE. That would certainly be a pain in the butt. I guess our little girl would just have an awesome dinosaur room and we'd have to get her some blue and green ribbons to go with all her dino onesies.
I liked the idea of the consignment store above. Or possibly borrowing things from friends and putting your stuff away if you plan to have more kids? Good luck!!
I like cookies.
This happened to my cousin, expect she found out in the delivery room. They had a big ole girl shower for her. Pink and purple everywhere. Then the baby was delivered and he had a penis.
My aunt was pregnant with a girl and she ended up with all of my cousins stuff.
WOW....So I read this post earlier and thought that's kinda crazy, but ya know it happens, and glad everyone is ok.
Do you know I just ran across your husband's post about this on Reddit??
TINY internet world! LOL! Glad all is well for both of you
Hail fellow Redditor! Well met! I didn't know anyone else posted to both!
How the crap did I not know this existed! Crazy!
I'm glad everything is okay.
I have been worried that this will happen to me since I found out it was a girl. I was sure the baby was a boy. I still think it's a boy, even though the doctor said it was definitely a girl. I registered for lots of greens and browns just in case. The nursery is green and brown. But I have a lot of adorable pink clothes. And we have a girl's name picked out, which I use to refer to my baby. So, it will be difficult if she is suddenly a he.
So far it hasn't happened to me, but I haven't had an ultrasound in a while.
This is why DH and I decided to be team green. The doctors swore to my mother that both my sister and I were boys at multiple u/s and needless to say they were wrong. And then with my cousins baby they said it was a girl and it turned out to be a boy.
It's less common then it used to be since technology is getting better, but there is always the margin of chance for error.
My good friend from high school was supposed to have a "boy" and I received a voicemail from her while at work one day saying "Hey Lauren, I had a girl. CALL ME!"
I (jokingly) gave her a hard time about having a boy, saying she was supposed to have a girl and she absolutely CAN'T have a boy. Well ... she absolutely didn't have a boy!
