Let's Talk about PP/POOP!

Seeing as how I already confessed to viewing the January board... One thing I learned was that apparently pooping post baby can be excruciating!  So I thought I would pass it along for all of us FTM, Who haven't a clue. They suggest to start taking Colace stool softener now. Let it build up in your system so that the PP Poop goes a little smother.

I already bought mine and will start taking in the next few days. EDD is 2/5-8/13Surprise

Re: Let's Talk about PP/POOP!

  • Yep. Not to get too graphic, but it felt like I was pooping a knife for a long time.

  • It took at least 3 days pp for me to go and the stool softener did help a little. I didn't start taking it until right after birth though so not sure if it helps to take it before.  It was probably a couple weeks before it was comfortable to go again.  Sad  Not looking forward to it.

  • Yes, it is tough.  Especially when you are stitched too, but I would be too paranoid that it would make me poop on the table during delivery!  Seriously - I am thankful it didn't happen the first time around, but am always paranoid about that! Tongue Tied

  • I second that. My experience after my first baby was AWFUL!!!!! Like - sobbing in the bathroom about to die and giving birth for the second time to a poop the size of my baby's head - awful. All can be avoided by requesting a stool softener in the hospital and keep taking it until you go.

  • I was seriously more scared to poop after delivery than I was scared to go into labor and push a baby out lol.

It was such a relief when I finally went!

Definitely  trumps pooping on the table  Tongue Tied

  • I've heard this before, but will be the dissenting voice. I pooped a couple times while I was still in recovery in the hospital and had no problem at all. I did get a few stitches because of tearing during delivery, but pooping was completely normal for me.

  • I started taking colace immediately after birth and drank a LOT of water and didn't have any problems. My SIL, however, did not take colace and famously screamed "I think I'm having another baby!!!!!" from the bathroom the first time she tried to go.

My BFF took them after her c-section but stopped after a day or two and ended up in the ER with a compacted bowel.

TAKE THE COLACE and KEEP taking it for a while. Be cautious!

PS- I wouldn't start taking it earlier unless you feel like you need it now, or maybe just take one every few days. It kicks in pretty fast. And while you will, most likely, poop on the table regardless, I would imagine being hopped up on stool softeners could make the table pooping even less pretty.
