Trigger shot before IUI pros cons?

What is everyone's take on a trigger shot before IUI? Is it safe? Will it help even though my wife doesn't have any infertility, or other issues? the only remaining issue is low motility in me otherwise no issues. my wife had ultrasound for follicle check and the dr said she had a ton of follicles. my wife is worried about the short, long term safety of the trigger shot?

It's HCG, which is the hormone she will produce when she's pregnant. And she should not be triggering with a ton of follicles- you want 1 or 2. You want a "ton" when doing an egg retreival for IVF.

It would be stupid to waste your money on an IUI without triggering to ensure that she will ovulate so the IUI can be properly timed. Some people do it, but non-triggered cycles are more common with TI cycles, not IUI.

All of this. What exactly is a "ton" of follicles? I can't imagine doing an IUI without a trigger. You want to make sure the IUI is timed properly.

Hi I am sorry by ton really meant at least 8 follicles. So my wife should take the trigger shot before IUI and its safe since its the same stuff she will be producing when pregnant? Our IUI is scheduled for next Thurs or Fri depending on next Tuesdays sonogram to time it.

Either your wife didn't ask even a 10th of the questions she should have or you aren't paying attention to things. Your entire protocol should have been discussed before starting any medications. If her IUI is estimated to be in a week, the number of follicles she has now will hopefully drop as one or 2 take over as dominant follicles. The trigger shot will help ensure that both of these follicles actually release eggs. As already stated, the trigger shot is perfectly safe. In the meantime she should be having ultrasounds and blood work every other day to make sure ovulation doesn't happen sooner, so if she is worried she can ask RE in the next day or two.

Hi It's alot of info to take in we did the bloodwork and ultrasound the other day at fert dr. My wife tells me she counted 8 follicles but I wasn't with her during the ultrasound to ask him more about the follicles but he explained how you get closer the follicles take shape and as you mentioned might have 2 dominate ones. He stated she will be monitored during whole process and this Tuesday she will go for ultrasound to time the ovvulation also checking with a ovvu kit. He mentioned the trigger shot helps and 2nd cycle possibilty to take clomid he is highly recommende fert dr. in my area so I have alot of faith in him. What should we ask him on Tuesday to quell any other fears. My wife is against drugs and she reads online bout this trigger shot and hears bad stories I told her stop believing all you read on internet. So I am just trying to calm her fears of this shot. I will ask more about the follicles on Tuesday I am sure they will change as he mentioned will probably go to 2. Thanks for all of the advice. No need to argue and get mad at me I am only asking questions. Thanks

I know I wish I was in there to listen what Dr. said about the follicles.

Waste of Money? IUI is 100% covered by our insurance company for unlimited amt of times so we aren't wasting any money.

I just want to make sure the trigger shot is safe and it appears there is no issue with this shot. Thanks for all of the advice. I will keep everyone posted as I get more info Tues. and the progress. Thanks again.

Today is the day for sonogram so we will know # of follicles and what day either this Thurs or Fri for IUI.

Stop with the insurance claims nonsense. It's not my fault Obamacare. Our jobs are great and that is a benefit especially for teachers. I can't help fix the insurance issue. All I know is we are covered and that hopefully it won't take many cycles. I can't help the insurance issue. This IUI isn't poorly timed the dr is monitoring it to get timing precisely.

Buuuuullllllsheet. I'm a teacher, have incredible insurance, and everything IF related was 110% out of my own pocket. EVERYTHING. Quit spouting off crap.
