I can't stop thinking about having to start planning DS's first birthday already!! So I'm curious as to what your themes are and what everyone is planning!
I'm really torn between a few themes.... Monsters, Circus or Dr. Suess!

Re: What are your First Birthday plans?
Our theme is Mickey Mouse. James loves Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. It's the one show that he can sit and watch all the way through. He has even started dancing to the hot dog dance song.
I bake cakes so I'm already starting to decide on the design. I know he will have his own little one in the shape of mickeys head. The one for everyone else I'm having troubles with. I'm also going to be making mickey ears for the kids and any adults who want to to wear. I have a mickey mouse stuffed animal that is about the size of James that I got for my first christmas 27 years ago that we plan on giving him as a present. It is still in really good condition so I figure he might be able to keep it for the next 27 years too.
LO had a milk and cookies shirt that I thought was so adorable when he was tiny and he loves cookie monster so I was so stoked to find this...

until it blew up on pinterest. Im a little butthurt that so many people have seen this idea now
Now Im thinking puppies, bubbles/backyard water party, or just bright colors with some sesame street thrown in there.
I will either pick a Bubble Guppies kiddie pool party or Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. She loves those songs! Im pinning a gross amount of party ideas!
I was going to do a monster party too but I think I am going to save it for her third birthday. So her cake can have 3 cake pop eyes....Im lame.
Do you ladies plan on inviting other kids? Or just keep it small with family?
For the big cake, what about a topsy-turvy cake with a smaller set of mouse ears on top? You could color it kind of like the clubhouse.
That was one of my ideas. I'm also thinking one of these two cakes as well.
We're doing a 'Bapti-Birthday'(my term for Baptism and Birthday party on the same day) so that our families only have to fly in once. Since it's a mixed event, I think we'll do a pallette, instead of a theme. I'm thinking about bright or pastel polka dots.
We're going to invite family and our friends and their kids. It's right next to DH's work so we'll probably invite his staff, too.
No theme. We figure a first birthday party is really more for the adults in DS's life anyway. Kind of boring on the kid party front, but oh well!
The theme for mine is either going to be hot air balloon or just balloon.
I found a ton of ideas on pinterest, I have a board just for ideas.

Trying for Number Two since 9/1/15
BFP!!! Baby 2 Due: 12/6/21
Lol- my first thought was honestly, Sam101 will love this post
For us themes just dictate what kind of plates and cake you're going to get. And considering Im probably going to be throwing freaking Yo Gabba Gabba parties in a few years Im enjoying the freedom to do what I want with it
LO has 1 "friend" who is my friend's 10 month old baby who will be there. We have a ton of kids in my family who are young so there will be lots of commotion which is why Im thinking water- thats entertaining.
This is probably what we'll do. I might kind of have a thing just because I have a friend who makes banners and stuff so I can probably get it all for free. I'll put a small pool up in the yard and a slip and slide and call it a party.
sam101, how do you really feel, lol?
Im not sure about the other ladies on the board but I'm planning ahead because Im a planner but also because I'm on a pretty tight budget since I took a year off of work, so anything I could make now or purchase on sale ahead of time will be a big help.
Im not really doing a theme, per se, but a color theme with cupcakes thrown in. The colors will be various shades of pink with teal.
That is a GREAT theme idea!!! I may "borrow" it from you and put my own twist on it!!

When this popped up a few weeks ago, I decided just to look a the "guest list" knowing how big out family is and cutting it off at the grandparent level/aunts/uncles and godparents it is like 20+ people. ridiculous! but that is what happens with divorced families.
One of our friends just had their LOs birthday around x-mas with a monkey theme. I really liked it since it was low key, just a few decorations and decorated cake and "banana" food items.
I think we might just extend DS's nursery theme for his birthday. He isn't really "into anything" yet (i.i Sesame Street, Disney, etc). Although I had a "big bird" cake for my first birthday, so that could be fun for DS to have the same...I guess what I am saying is that it is on my mind, but no decisions or conclusions at this point. I just hope that it isn't too hot or raining that day, so I can have people outside, cause that is just too many people and my house will be bursting at the seams.
I started planning and its a circus/carnival theme. We'll have a carousel cake and carnival games. I'm having a ring master outfit and hat made for her. I already hired a ballon maker and face painter. I just can't help myself, my husband keeps teasing me about it.
Next Years theme is my favorite superhero. All children are expected to dress as their favorite superhero. I can't get enough of this!
