I wonder about this too. DS says, All done, gone, cat, mama, dah (for daddy), and that. He used to say hey, but he hasn't said it in a long time. He usually just points at things. He seems to understand most of what we try to say to him though.
At our 15 month appointment they asked if she had 5 words. That's it, just five words (even if they don't say them perfectly, but it's an attempt and there's a clear consistent meaning). I don't know exactly how many Lily has, but it's not a huge number. She understands far more than we even realize and is learning new words regularly.
I think he's a little behind verbally, but not too worried about it.
He says hot and honestly, that's the only word that sounds like a word.
He makes a ba sound for ball and bite, but I don't think a stranger would understand.
He has recently started trying to say thank you. He's being consistent with how he says it, but someone definitely wouldn't know that's what he was saying.
ETA: he does a great job making connections with words so that's why I'm not really worried. He catches on pretty quickly when it comes to that.
Until 2 weeks ago (maybe less) N had no words. None. And he wasn't walking well. He was born on the 9th so he's one of the oldest on here and I kept reading about kids running and talking and I was getting really worried and then his vocabulary exploded and in less than 2 weeks, he started, clearly, saying about 20+. It was crazy. His pedi was blown away at his 15 month appointment and said kids his age typically have 3-5. So I wouldn't worry. Your LO is probably holding them all in, like mine!
Now he says: tickle-tickle, vacuum, truck, dog, cat, no, mama, up, cat, dog, book, soft, nice, moo, down, eyes, hair, belly, bike, all done, music, ball. There's probably more. Seriously, it happened in days. From what I've read, as long as your LO is communicating, understanding, pointing, etc. you probably don't have anything to worry about.
We are into animal noises. She says Oliver, Audrey, MA, Da, ball, tickle, num-num, all gone, uh-oh, bad dog, dog and Hi. that is all that come to mind.
P doesn't say much at all mama, dada, hi, and meow. He does gesture a lot though. And he's not walking yet. I'm slowly starting to worry but my pedi's cut off for walking is 18 months so we will see.

Yeah, R isn't walking either. He isn't even close, which of course had me worrying...until I read all the words yours are all saying. He says no coherent or specific word yet. He points and grunts like a champ and seems to understand a lot of what we say. I see the pedi on Thursday, so I guess I'll find out what she thinks.

About a month ago, DD had maybe 10 words. Now it is probably at least 30 with more every day. However, at her 15 month appointment the pedi just wanted to know if she had at least 4 words in addition to mama and dada.

My friend's son just started walking, and he's around 19 months.

I love the fact that she says bad dog! That must be so cute to hear!!
B has a few words: mama, dada, bye, hi, thank you, taco our cat, tickle, mine, and his name. It took him a while to say anything but mama and dada but then one night he just started talking like crazy! So if I were you I wouldn't be too worried! It'll start soon enough!
He says mama and dada. That's it though. Nothing else. I was worried but we had our 15 month appointment and the Pedi wasn't concerned at all. He follows tons of directions. He understands most of what we say, and communicates with us by pointing and gestures. He babbles using many syllables, and sounds. She was happy with all of that and said he will be talking in no time. I was happy to hear it, but I'll still feel better when we get at least a word or two out of him.
What confuses me is that it seems like every doctor is looking for a different number of words which is normal at this point. At Alastair's 15m appt he said they are now looking for 20 words by 18 months. And at 15 it should be at least 10. Well, he has maybe 5. Mama, dada, yes, hi and wow. Maybe a few more but I am not sure. They are not consistent and I just don't really want to count things if they are not there.
It worries me a bit. I feel like I don't work on it enough because there is Aidan who needs so much attention and I also wonder if I don't understand him right as it is not my first language. AND I wonder if my mothers stupid blabber in German has thrown him for a loop.
P isn't walking yet either. I keep thinking she's about to, but then she takes a knee. I'm trying not to worry, but it's hard when so many in her daycare class are running.
On a positive note, she has about 30 words. She seems to learn more everyday.
Sophie doesn't say any words consistently. She will babble a dada sound, but not necessarily in relation to SO. I also think she may have said "bubbles," but that could be a stretch. She understands a lot, she just doesn't talk. Her doctor said that she would only be concerned if S doesn't have 10 words by 18 months.
DD had her 15 month appt on Wed and the pedi wasn't even concerned with words other than mama/dada, just whether she was babbling.
We told him she signs and we communicate with her in two languages. She can babble in both English and Chinese, understand directions in both languages, and has roughly 10 words (mostly in English, a few in Chinese).
DD only really says mama and dada occassionally. I think she said brother (referring to our dog) a couple times but she hasn't said it in a couple weeks. She makes animal sounds (what does a cow/dog/kitty/sheep say?)
She understands SO much though.
At her 15 month appointment, we discussed it with the pedi. He suggested starting some basic sign language, so she does all done, eat, and more right now. We are workign on please and thank you. He said if she still isn't talking at 18 months then we would discuss it more. I am hoping she will start talking more soon.

she will say "three" if you lead with "onenbsp; two..."
DS does this as well, along with ready, set, "go!"
There are a lot of words i understand but not sure if others would. Toos for toast, chee for cheese, and sssss for ice. He says mama, dada, cat, da for either dog or duck. He loves animal noises and is very good with commands/understanding.

DD says Mama, dada and Dat for what's that. Went to Pedi yesterday for her 15 month and pedi said she doesn't worry until 18 months and even then it's more like 20 months. As long as she has 3-5 words now and babbles. She was happy with the fact that DD follows instructions, points etc...I of course am still worried but pedi said not to worry.
My doctor told us it was all about understanding at this age. Some kids are movers and some are talkers. Usually not both. DS is a mover. He's too busy to stop and talk. However animal noises, well that's a different story. He likes to bark and roar so we have to look at those animals a lot.

Kind of a lot. I actually counted the other day and came up with 40 if you count animal sounds as in, "What does the cow say?" and she replies with "Moo" or yells "Meow!" whenever she sees a cat.

Not many clearly spoken words here, cepting "Dada", but he does chatter away all day tho However, when he does see something interesting, he will point and very clearly say, "What is this?" so that counts as his first phrase.
I? m not worried tho as he understands pretty much everything we say.
For example, I can ask him, without pointing to it, to go find the ball, egg, rattle etc and bring it to mummy, and he will go look for it, then bring it to me and hand it over.
or when we say "Bathtime" he turns round and waves bye-bye at everyone and heads to his bedroom to get ready.
If we ask him would he like more juice, milk, food - he will nod, or shake his head, depending on.
And when we sing his favourite songs, and then point at him saying, "Your turn" he does try and sing a little, which is super cute.
I?ve no experience with kids, but we are happy with his progress.

I understand about nine words but I wouldn't expect anyone else to understand her.
She says dog, duck, up, down, more, mama, dada, ball and box

Levi had his 15 month appt today and I asked how many words . My Pedi said they look for mama, dada with babbling.
Levi says Mama, dada, Thank you, Hiya and Bottle...He also occasionally chases the cats around while screaming Kit---ttyy
he has copied a few words but the above are the ones he uses

Verbal communication: mama, dada, ty-ty (dog's name), tee-tee (my sister's name), geege (her word for gramma), thank you, wow, hi, yeah, baby
Sign Language: more, please, all done, bath, eat, shakes her head "no"

We got 3 more this week: help (hep), hat (hah), and hot (how). Which brings our total to 25:
Cora does not have that many words that are at all understandable. She does say daddy, papa, poppy, cat, that, this, sock, ow and woah.
Her most recent words are "sit down" said with great conviction and she will say "three" if you lead with "one two..."
