Nurseries and Baby Gear

Nursery colors

Hi, all,

My partner and I are considering turquoise/aqua and red in the nursery. We don't want everything matchy-matchy, but those would be the dominant colors-- probably turquoise wall(s) and red shelving and curtains. Does this color combination seem particularly gendered? Like, would you assume we are having a girl or a boy based on the color story?

Just curious. We're trying to stay away from anything too obvious or stereotypical.

Thanks!

  • I like it! Are you thinking a deep red or like a fire engine red? It doesn't seem gender specific to me. I think that would depend on any accents or theme you might go with. For some reason I would picture like a torquise, dark red, and brown to be a camping theme. No clue why though.

Camping is a neat idea! We could get some faux bois print in there. Hmm, I might have to think about that! :) The red we're considering is a true red, because that's the color of the Ikea storage unit we like (https://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/70201811/).

  • I like that color combo.  It's similar to what we did.  We did gray walls with an orange accent wall and then turquoise and chevron (gray and white) accents.  We are having a boy but it doesn't look like the typical "boy" nursery.

  • I like that color combo - we actually have it in DS's room. But I imagine it could go either way.

  • I love the color combo!! I have them as accents in my kitchen. I also used a lot of red and turquoise for my sons first birthday party that was Dr Seuss so that could be another cute thing to throw in. But love the color combo and think it goes either way.

  • I would think girl.  We are thinking aqua and coral for a girl, so similar.

But depending on fabric and decor, it can really look like a boy room if needed.

Awesome kitchen colors! I was actually inspired to use the colors because I love 1950s vintage kitchens with turquoise appliances and red accents (preferably with black and white tile floor). :)

  • We are considering these colours for our baby boy's nursery. We would also have lime green though. This is the bedding set we are considering: https://www.sweetkyla.com/content/new-hooty-bright

this is a good room for some inspiration:  https://projectnursery.com/projects/baby-maddoxs-nursery/
