I was an avid runner pre- prego and am still running. will be 33 weeks Monday. I run about 3 miles 4-5 times a week and sometimes that is alot of walking mixed in. I have a 2 year old at home so I am pretty active the rest of the time. My goal was to keep the weight down so postpartum didn't feel so overwhelming to get back to shape (I know my time will be much more limited).
I am going to keep running although I just feel sooo big and awkward. I am a little worried about not having anytime to work out after this second little one arrives? Running is my stress relief. Just thought I would throw this out there to see if anyone else is worried about this (I know there are bigger fish to fry than worrying about keeping my running going)...
Re: just wondering if anyone feels the same...
Unfortunately a double jogger wouldn't help for this summer, since most say the kid must be 6-8 months before using it.
I started running after I had my 3rd kid to lose the baby weight quicker. I would run with my youngest next to me on the treadmill, either on a blanket, the bouncer, swing, PNP - whatever it took to get my run in.
Now, my "baby" is going to be 3 in May and I ran 2 half marathons last year and another scheduled for this spring. I do take my girls running with me now, but I didn't put my littlest in the jogger until she was about 1 (May B-day and brutal winters in ND).
Way to keep running at 33 weeks! My lovely, encouraging coworkers told me "There's no way you'll be running at 32 weeks". Almost there and running has been just fine
You're inspiring.
This is my first baby, but even with one kid, I still have the same thought about running/baby time management. I figured the best thing to do now is stay active, lifting and running, that way getting in shape again post-pregnancy won't be AS hard (as without working out at least)!
Thanks! It is great to have encouragement from other soon to be moms and to know you are not alone!
I have a BOB which I used religiously which my first and trained for a half marathon with it. I actually found that my time was not too bad when I raced because I had been training with her. I am thinking of getting a double bob. With my first baby I used the carseat attachment in the BOB so I was able to start running with her when she was only 6 weeks- highly recommend this so you can start earlier and not wait until your new baby is 6 months.
Does anyone know if you can use a carseat attachment in the double bob?
Just wanted to say that it is awesome that you are still running at 33 weeks, especially with a toddler to chase! Good for you. I had two under two and my gym's daycare was my lifesaver. I actually tear up in gratitude for them and the wonderful (free!) care they gave my children, allowing me precious time alone for exercise. Find a gym!
I'm sure there are bigger fish to fry too, but running is a big concern of mine as well. Along with staying in shape, I really need it to stay sane too. I have a treadmill at home, so I've been able to run on it since DS was born either while he is sleeping or in the PNP, bouncer, etc., or now that he is older just playing in the room with me. I am sure it's going to be harder to keep two LOs content while running, but I am hopeful DS1 will be cooperative whenever it ends up working out best with #2's schedule. I would love to be able to get up early and run before either wakes, but I know with newborn induced sleep deprivation, that is probably not going to happen.
Anyway, it sounds like you don't have a treadmill, but if you have space/$ for it, I would totally recommend it. It is so easy to just jump on it anytime you get a chance. Packing up and heading to the gym (even with free daycare) seems like such a hassle to me. And since all I really care about is running, it just made the most sense to get a treadmill rather than join a gym.
