My LO is 6 weeks and sleeps most if the time, he is cranky when he is awake. The only little time he is awake and happy he just stares and lays there. He barely smiles, no coos, or laughs. And when he does tummy time he doesn't try to lift his head or anything just lies there. Am I expecting too much from a 6 week old or is he behind?
Re: What is your LO doing now?
Your LO sounds a bit like mine. I have a feeling my LO is just lazy lol.
Lol I already knew mine was! He even pretty much always nurses with his eyes closed even if he is awake before and after!
Mine too and if I try to wake him while nursing he will pull off really rough and scream at me lol
My LO is just a little over 6 weeks.
For the past couple of days he's been going through that 6 week growth spurt and nurses ALL THE TIME. He barely sleeps during the day. When he does it's at night, for very long stretches.
He's cranky when he wakes up, only until you change and feed him. Then he's very active. Cooing, smiling and laughing. Moving his arms and legs CONSTANTLY. He lifts his head a lot while doing tummy time and when he's being burped. He follows everything around him with his head/eyes.
Remember all babies develop differently! Just to be safe I would talk to your pedi about your LO's developments.
My LO will sleep most of the night now and only wakes up once or twice to eat. He will only do this though is if I feed him and then once he is finished give him To DF and have lay him down. Try doing that. I also give him a bottle with half an ounce more than what I usually give him right before bed time and that helps too lol. He is breastfed though.
Babies this young don't really interact in a playful way. They're still learning about their surroundings, cause and effect etc... Everything you do, LO is taking it in, don't worry. Every baby develops at a different rate.
We give her what my SO affectionately calls Thanksgiving dinner every night. Basically we just make sure she's super full, and it seems to get her to sleep longer than otherwise. It usually is an extra ounce compared to her normal bottles.
My LO is about to be six weeks and she is quite active. When she is not sleeping she enjoys looking around. Last week she was starting to smile and this week it has continued. Last night DH & LO were down in our room and she was smiling back at him and cooing. She also lifts her head while on tummy time and pretty much holds her head up when we are carrying her as well. I was surprised at how much she is doing but I think it just may depend on the baby.
Are you interacting with LO when he is awake? I know a friend had that problem. She really would not interact much with her daughter so her pediatrician felt that was the problem when her LO wasn't developing the way she wanted her too.
When LO is awake I try and talk to her, sing, and play little games with her. I know it may be too earlier but she seems to respond to everything I've been doing.
