PIO / Progesterone and estrogen question

I have PIO and Endometrin but I'm only doing PIO right now (I just prefer it). I'm taking 2cc's every night. I had my progesterone level tested on Saturday (day of my 5dt) and it was 189. They said they like to see it above 6. I asked if this meant I could decrease my dosage and she said no. Um... why not? Is this really a bigger is better sort of thing?

Also, what do they look for in estrogen levels? Is it a specific number or just how it changes? And where do you put your Vivelle patches? I'm supposed to start 2 patches every other day but I'm wondering if there's a specific place I have to put them. I really don't want to put them on my stomach but that's the only place I've heard people put them.

Re: PIO / Progesterone and estrogen question

  • On the patches, my nurse said put them in any flat location where they won't be 'bothered' - i.e. don't put it on your shoulder under your bra strap. Mine is on my back. She said back, stomach, chest, upper arm, thigh, etc. are all fine.

  • This may be wrong, but I think they don't want your progesterone level to start decreasing at all even though it is high. A decreasing progesterone level may confuse your body into thinking its m/c. And, as long as your estrogen and progesterone are in proper balance, it doesn't really matter how high they are.

    That makes total sense.

I just had a total %$^&((#$ moment. I'm allergic to the adhesive in bandaids, tape, you name it. I get terrible hives. I've got them right now on my butt (where I had a bandaid from a PIO shot) and on my hand from the IV tape. I bet I'll be allergic to the adhesive in the Vivelle too.

  • My Re says on the stomach only for the patches and Im allergic to adhesive also. I have a red welp in the rectangle where my patch was plus a couple small blisters that are healing. I wear mine for 3 days then change. Re says to put them below belly button above where your jeans will wear and rotate sides. I have been putting benadryl on the welp. There isnt much you can do about it and from what my RE tells me there isnt a substitute for the patch so you just have to deal with it. Oh the joys of IF.....
