We want to take our 3 kids (2,4 and 10 yo SS) to Disney next year (2014). A family member will let us use their Disney Grand Vacation timeshare. When do you suggest going? My SS will be in 6th grade, so I am apprehensive about pulling him out of school... But I hear all school vacation times are horrible. What say ye Parenting? What time of year is best for Disney madness?
Re: When to go to Dinsey World
I've been in March (2012) & August (2009). We are going again November 2013.
Both March & August were hot. Believe it or not, I didn't feel a difference in temperature those months. March was busier due to spring break. Mid August was surprisingly less busy. I hear its the least busy of the summer months. We are pulling our 3rd & KG & PreK3 out of school for a couple of days in November (and I away from a teaching position) because we really want to see the Christmas celebrations.
Generally, I hear February & October are the best months but I think you can make most months work...if you know all the tricks.
We took our twins at 5 yrs old in Feb and it wasn't too busy. The temps were somewhat cool (wore a light jacket most days), but the kids still swam in the outdoor heated pool daily.
My family went when I was in 6th grade in Feb also. We were gone for 2 weeks. It was great and I would consider taking my kids out of school for a trip if they were going good in school.
We are FL resident passholders and go pretty frequently. You would have to pay me to go during the summer though.
October is pretty awesome. Usually good weather, not too crowded, Food and Wine Festival, Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party and fall decorations everywhere.
The week after Thanksgiving to the middle of December (around the 20th) is great too, due to the Christmas party and holiday decor, and terrific weather and still low crowds at that point Anything after 12/20 until the middle of the first week of January is pure craziness, like the busiest they are all year.
January and February are good except for the holiday weekends (MLK and President's Day). Those weekends and the weeks after each can get ridiculously busy. March and April can be crowded due to spring breakers but at least it's not 9 million degrees out, so they are still better than summer.
This is when we went as well. It was perfect timing as the weather was a great temperature and it wasn't super crowded. We got in everything we wanted with ease.
We went to Disney during Spring Break in college. Not your typical spring break destination but we had friends doing the disney college program. It was not too bad. We went mid april. I think schools were not out, or already had been out for spring break. We had a lot of fun.
DH & I love Oct or Nov. We're actually going again this Nov. The weather is great & the lines are short.
The 1st time I ever went I was in 8th grade. My parents pulled me & my sisters out of school for 2 weeks. Our teachers gave us school work to complete while we were out.
I think it depends on the child. If a child is already stuggling with school work it's probably not a good idea to take them out of classes.
If it's school vacation time, Disney will be CRAZY BUSY. That's just the way it works. Also, summers suuuuuuck in Florida. Especially if you're not from a hot/humid state.
The absolute best time to go is between Thanksgiving and Christmas, or shortly after New Years. The weather is the most tolerable and the crowds are not bad at all. Betwen Halloween and Thanksgiving is also a good time to go.
