Okay, so I mentioned in a recent randoms post about how my old school single serving coffee maker is obsolete. I can't find the pods to make coffee in it because they're not the k-cup design that seems to be everywhere today. It is about 10 years old, so I'm not too broken up about having to shop for something new. It got a lot of use back in the day.
Anyway, we have a nice grind and brew machine to make a full pot, but DH has stopped drinking coffee. And since I'm limiting myself to one cup a day, I'm sick of the hassle the clean up afterwards, for just one cup.
My mom is always talking about how much she loves her Keurig, but they seem pretty pricey. Anyone have one? Love it, hate it? Is it worth $100+ bucks? I have some Kohl's cash burning a hole in my pocket, so I was considering putting it toward one of the less expensive models.
Re: Do you have a Keurig?
DH doesn't drink coffee, and I hated cleaning a regular coffee machine. It's the perfect solution!
I really want one but will ask for it come my birthday :-) they do a seem a bit pricey for the k-cups but like a pp said try to use coupons.
If you get one let us know what you got and if you love it.
We have one and really like it. If you're looking for single serve that is less pricey check out the Aeropress. SO bought one this past week and absolutely love it. It makes espresso, but you just add boiling water. You can use whichever beans you want. It's really quick and so easy to clean up. The grinds come out in a puck that you just pop in the garbage and then rinse off the plunger.
I love my Keurig so much that I am getting a new one for my birthday, and putting the old one in the camper, so that I can have Keurig goodness where ever I go.
I am a bit of a coffee snob, and my parents and DH will drink generic coffee. I asked for a new coffee pot a few years ago (because the taste of their coffee was affecting the taste of mine - told you I'm a snob. lol) and they gave me my Keurig. I am pretty convinced that I would die without it.
We have one in the office and I really like it.
If you find the cost of the pods prohibitive, you can actually buy reusable metal pods online (I think Starbucks actually sells them), too.
ETA: About the breaking part... It's a smaller office, so we just have a home one. This is our second machine after a total of 5 years using it it. Considering we must make about 20 cups a day, I'd say it's sturdy enough.
That's impressive that it makes so many cups a day. My parents have had to replace theirs every year to two years as well. Maybe we are super hard on ours??
Wow, that's a lot of Keurig love!
I think I'm going to splurge and get one. It's not too much of a splurge since I have enough gift cards and Kohl's cash to pay for it. I didn't know about the metal filter that allows you to brew with regular coffee grounds. Sounds like that would be good to have in a pinch, I like not being limited to only the kcups. Either way, lots less clean up and hassle for a single cup. Thanks for all the replies
No idea. Maybe we've just really lucked out with ours!
We have one, and love it. I splurged and got the top model. Large water tank, I think three heat settings, and about 5 cup sizes. We usually use it a lot. I would drink 2-3 cups a day. Hubby would drink 1-2. When we did that, it got really expensive.
I shop for the cups with coupons, and never spend more than 50 cents a cup.
Hubby stopped drinking coffee this year. This pregnancy has given me a huge coffee aversion..
So right now it just heats the water for my tea. haha
Maybe it depends on what you buy? I only got one in the first place because my H and parents drink generic, and I can't stand the taste, so they gave me one for my birthday when I asked for my own coffee pot.
