Car Seat on plane was awesome!

I know this comes up occasionally, questioning whether to take a seat or not so hear is my experience.

We traveled with DS last week and it was the first time we had to buy a ticket for him. He took our seat and buckled him in and it was awesome. He sat still, was comfortable, and even took a nap. Each way our flight was 2 legs with a plane transfer so I installed the seat four times total. After the initial time I learned the trick and was quickly a pro.

We used the backpack bag to transport it. It was difficult to get it up and down the aisle of the plane, you have to carry it above the seats. We flew Southwest and if we were not in the A boarding group we got to board I between A and B. We always sit towards the back of the plane so we went back, installed the seat and got comfy while everyone else boarded. You install it by the window and there was plenty of room for DH and myself in the seats next to it.

Re: Car Seat on plane was awesome!

  • We always fly with our car seats. I can't imagine not doing it. I'm glad you had a good experience! It's nice when they're contained.

  • Thank you so much!  I was the one who posted about this last week.  I will be flying at the end of March and am very nervous, but this helped.  Thanks again.

  • Good to know!  We are going to Disney in May.  How do you install it?  Just put the airplane seat belt through the path?  I hope she does good with and it seems like a car ride...

  • We did this about 5 months ago as well - it was great having it on the plane because like the car, DD assumed she had to stay strapped in.  We will be taking a trip in March and will definitely be taking it then too.
  • With long flights though it just gets in the way, I prefer not having one, just cares harness for our 14 hours flights :

I agree but I don't use it on short flights either. We use the Cares harness as well and it works great. We used the car seat only one time and never again (we do gate check it). DD knew she wasn't in a car and with me next to her she wanted out unless she was asleep. Plus they can kick the seat in front of them very easily in a car seat. I also felt that the car seat pretty much prevents your from using the space underneath the seat.  And on long flights it is nice to have them be able to move around a bit.

I actually didn't feel like it worked all hat well anyway. The buckle of the seatbelt was right in DD's back so not exactly comfortable. And in most of the smaller planes it really sucks.
