Had a scary moment this morning! All of the sudden my heart started pounding, I became very hot, and I had that type of nausea I can only describe as what you get right before you pass out...but it lasted way too long and I was sitting down calmly feeling fine until it started! I really thought I would pass out, so I leaned into DH and he rubbed my back until it passed. He said I went white and felt hot and had a terrified look and it lasted maybe three minutes. And then as it went away I just felt sweaty and tingly and panicky (about nothing!). After the service (we were in church), he got me some lemonade and that really helped. Thank goodness I didn't pass out, but that was not fun!! It's the first time this pregnancy I've felt anything like this, and the first time in a long time I've felt like I'd pass out. Has anyone else experienced anything like this or know what the heck happened to me? I just really hope it doesn't happen again at work with the kids!
Re: What was that?!?
My two girls Flower and Ayla Faye
I agree with PP about the low blood pressure. I get this often, and the worst I've ever felt it is after donating blood (before becoming pregnant, obviously). If it happens again, put your head between your knees and get your DH to put a cool cloth on your neck.
But it also wouldn't hurt to bring it up with your OB. GL!
Sounds like my panic attacks that I get, they're especially bad during pregnancy and while my body (a.k.a. hormones) is calming back down after delivery. Except on top of what you described, my vision goes dark and all I hear is a ringing in my ears for a good solid 2 minutes and I also lose all the strength in my hands and arms. I can always tell when I'm getting one because my hands get tingly first. They always come with a terrible headache too, at some point... sometimes before, sometimes during, sometimes after.
I've always had anxiety/panic attacks but the first one like this was when I was 15wks pregnant with M and I started by getting nauseous so I started to make myself lunch thinking I was hungry, dropped my glass on the way to the table because I couldn't grip it anymore, got super super hot and immediately needed to get into an icy bath and just as I was about to get in I lost my vision and hearing and couldn't feel my hands or arms... I was terrified and I was cramping to (probably from being terrified) and DH called an ambulance and we went to the ER, the oxygen in the ambulance did me wonders and they ran all sorts of tests for 3 days and nothing came up.
I had smaller grade ones every couple of weeks during my entire pregnancy and then a massive attack the day after I gave birth to M. It was terrifying and a thousand times worse than my first one at 15wks had been, they actually had the emergency response team come up (someone from every single area of the hospital) and ripped my bed from the wall and started doing al sorts of tests, hooked me to heart and breathing monitors, took blood, started IVs, and eventually knocked me out. DH said it was one of the scariest times of his life, because they wouldn't let him come past the doorway of my room. Again they never came up with anything decisive. ETA The scariest part was that for some reason I couldn't control my movements, I knew my arms and legs were twitching but I could not make them stop or control what they were doing. And you'd think the docs would try to make sense of something like that but I never heard a word back about it...
I had several small ones on and off for the forst 2 month after M was born, my worst where I actually did pass out was at her second doctors appointment and DH had to catch me. I had one small scale between that 2-3month PP period and getting pregnant again. I've had 2 smaller scale ones and one medium sized one since being pregnant with this LO.
Sorry for the complete novel but what you said is eerily similar to what I've dealt with so I wanted to tell you as much as I could so you know you're not alone, especially if they do get worse.
ETA: Docs don't feel comfortable pegging mine to just low blood sugar but have considered low blood pressure because my BP is generally low to begin with... but again they don't want to nail it to just that either. And I should add that every time before one of these hit I feel absolutely fine, happy, calm etc. nothing near panicked... and then bam... totally unexpected (well at first, now I know how to recognize them)
That has happened to me at church more than once even before I was pregnant....but each time it was because the church was quite hot. A friend of mine also gets it when her BP drops.
ETA: I've also had it happen when hungry and standing by the stove cooking so I agree that it could be low blood sugar too. Mine is always comes with tunnel vision where everything goes really dark and you kinda see stars also.
That's what I was wondering.
