No external version for VBAC

I've had 1 successful vaginal delivery and 1 successful c/s.  This baby is breech and I asked my OB about an external version if he doesn't turn on his own, just as an FYI, he said that it automatically disqualifies me for any type of version.  Not sure for others, but just wanted to throw that out there.

  • It is pretty early to be worried about breech. However, I would recommend starting the exercises at www.spinningbabies.com to help LO turn and stay that way.

  • I think you are pretty early to be worried about this.  I would let things just go for now and play it by ear until you are closer.  You still have a few months till it's even a worry for most doctorsl

  • I'm not too worried yet, but just wanted to post this more as a PSA.  My OB and I were discussing options in the event that he doesn't turn on his own.  I'll probably start worrying more once I hit 32/34w (so mid-late March).

  • If your lo never turns make sure to check out spinningbabies.com. They have a lot of great tips for breech babies.

  • I think this is probably OB specific.  An OB I saw for VBAC consult told me that he did a version at 37 weeks on a patient who had 2 prior C-Sections.  He told me he received a letter from his hospital letting him know he had engaged in a "controversial" procedure, but he was not concerned and felt the risks were no greater than a non VBAC candidate.

This patient did go on to have a successful VBA2C.

  • Definitely OB specific, my OB will do a version for a VBAC.

This. My first 2 were breech. ECV was always on the table. I was not told that I couldn't have it done.
