Cloth Diapering

Best washer/dryer for CDing??

Our dryer just went ka-put, so we are going to invest in a new washer/dryer set. Right now we have an older set that is not HE. I have heard HE doesn't work as well with cloth diapers d/t the low amount of water used.

Can anyone recommend a particularly CD-friendly washer/dryer set that also works well for regular clothes too? TIA!

  • I have an LG HE FL (holey cow, the acronyms!) and I haven't had any problems with it. It has a Water Plus option which adds extra water throughout the wash cycle. The only thing I dislike is cleaning the rubber seal around the door.

    Front load.

As opposed to TL, which is top load.

  • I don't think you need to rule out HE machines, you just need to figure out which cycles use the most water.

We have a Whirlpool Duet HE FL. I use the soak cycle for the initial rinse and it uses plenty of water.  Lots of people here have HE FLs and manage to get their diapers clean.

This exactly.  I have the Amana which is pretty much the same thing as a Duet. I also use the soak cycle.

We have a Top Loader LG HE... AND I LOVE IT!!!! Do a quick wash then baby cycle with a soak and extra rinse... Then on the dryer do the load on 60 minutes ultra low... takes about 3 hours to do a load of diapers which is really not that bad considering... I also do a tub clean once a week...

  • We also have an LG HE top-loading machine - model WT5001cw. It's great and does a good job getting the diapers clean, but I wish the hot wash cycle was actually hot (it's tepid at best). But despite that, the diapers are always clean...
  • I have a Samsung HE FL and I haven't had a problem getting diapers clean.

  • I currently have an old style top loader, but if I were in the market for a new washing machine I would look for one where I could

    1. Select a water level not based on weight of the stuff being washed

    2. Add and extra rinse without having to manually do it after the main wash
