Postpartum Depression

Depression Sucks...

I don't even know where to begin....I was diagnosed with PPD and have been on Wellbutrin for 6 weeks now. My PPD has been very bad, detrimental to mine and my baby's bond and to my marriage.  I don't see any difference at all after taking the meds, other than weight loss and increased libido, both of which I am not complaining about:) Basically...motherhood is hard, this was my first baby. And I was in no way prepared for what parenthood would bring. Major kuddos to all mama's out there, our jobs are so overlooked and under appreciated.

Anyway, anyone here have success stories of overcoming PPD?  Also, how have you gotten your Husbands be more understanding and patient? My Husband and I have always had a good marriage and I feel like this just ripped us apart. I just hate him now, lol.

Re: Depression Sucks...

  • Sorry you are going through this and yes it does suck! Nobody can really prepare you for how hard it is and then you throw PPD on top of it and it is even harder to be a mom/wife.
I have a similar story and I waited to long to finally go to a therapist and a phyciatrist. If you are seeing your OB or gen dr, seek a specialist now! Chances are you are either on the wrong med for you or it is too low of a dose. My meds were switched and dosages were suited probably like 810 x before finding the right mix. I'm on 3 meds right now...even 2 years later. I've greatly weaned down on one of them and plan to wean again this summer. I'm feeling much better and pretty much back to myself other than still needing to pop pills. I also still see my therapist once a month.
My DH had a hard time too and finally when I was landed in the ER and took him to appointments with me...things got better. My DH is a wonderful man that is very caring and pretty much took over all duties at night to help me sleep. He stuck by my side and is still there.
Hope his helps you...please let me know how you feel later when doing some of these suggestions. You will be surprised what the correct meds and dosages will do.
    Good luck...hugs!

  • Thanks so much for the reply! It's good to hear stories of other women who have overcome this. Very encouraging! I do think this medication just might not be the right one...so I am open to trying new ones. I also did start counseling, I've only been there once but I already felt better afterwards!
