Stroller Question

I've always used a lightweight stroller of some sort (snap & go or umbrella) but I was wondering if that would be best with 2 boys 18-19 months apart.  I would be using the stroller outdoors a lot as well.

My question is would I be better off with a double umbrella like the Maclaren or going with someting a little larger (that would work with an infant seat & smaller babies) like the City Mini double or Bumbleride Indie Twin?

I've been looking at either getting a larger stroller or babywearing (with my current umbrella) to start with.  Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome.  I do have an SUV if that helps.

Re: Stroller Question

  • I think it comes down to preference. I wanted a double jogger and a really nice one at that so I got the Bob Dullie. We use it around the neighborhood, and at most outdoor events. It's too wide to really be used at the mall.

When my second was younger I either wore him or had him in our snap n go and had ds1 in an umbrella. Now we use a second umbrella and bought clips that connect the two strollers together. We paid about $10 for the clips, munchkin makes them. So if you already have an umbrella I would recommend considering this route to save some money. I usually leave the diaper bag in the car so not having a basket for it isn't an issue for me.

  • We have the City Mini and we loved it for the 1st year of 2u2. Now my DD is 2.5 and she wants to walk a lot and it being so wide it was hard to push in the mall while letting her walk. When she stayed in the stroller we had no problem at all and absolutely loved it.

Now, we got a sit n stand for free from friends and we used it today. I have to say it was great! My DD was free to get on and off (with us supervising of course) and my DS loved all the room to himself up front. Overall I love the sit n stand for this age right now.

FWIW: my kids are 13.5 months apart, and DD was very much a baby when DS was born. The sit n stand was not an option at all. At a 19 month age gap I think I would have considered the sit n stand from the start.

  • My girls are 18 months apart and we have the Bumbleride Indie Twin. I freaking love this stroller.

We bought the carry cot attachment to use when DD2 was a newborn but didn't even really need it. Her infant seat was a Graco Snugride 32 and was compatible with the Indie Twin. It was so easy to just pop her in and go. Since she was born in August, the carry cot was a bit cooler for her though.

Also, it was so easy to push them both. Some double strollers I tried were so heavy with 2 kids in it that I couldn't steer them very well. I could easily push the Bumbleride with one hand.

The storage space is nice and large for all the crap I end up carrying with 2 kids. The stroller is pretty bulky when it's folded but I think that's the case with most doubles. It's somewhat heavy to lift out of any SUV but nothing I couldn't handle.

It fits through most standard doorways but can be difficult to maneuver in crowded places.

My only complaint is that it doesn't have cupholders for the kids. There is one for the parent but it wasn't enough sometimes.
