Thoren David's birth story long, sort of scary

First, thank you Zona! You rock :
So at 9 pm Thursday night we got the iduction started with cyotec, after one dose I was contracting every 2 minutes and was never able to get another dose. By 8 am Friday I was 1 cm dilated and 80 effaced, so they decided to insert a foley. For reasons we wouldn't learn til later it hurt like hell, but they said I took it like a champ. After that contractions started getting much more intense, and I consented to fentanyl around 11am for pain management. Hubby got to me by 1pm, thank god.. I cried the second I saw him. After this times becomes a little fuzzy because a lot happened. But by about 5 my foley came out, my doctor checked my cervix an hour later and said I was 7cm dilated 95 effaced and babies head was right there, my doctor said he expected us to have a baby by midnight. An hour later the pain was becoming excruciating and I decided to get the epidural all things considered I wish I hadn't. 3 hours later it completely stopped working, we tried for what felt like forever to get it going again and she restuck me probably 6 times, but it never took again. At this point I was in so much pain that I could barely breath anymore, the gave me xanax, uped my fentanyl, and had to put me on oxygen. And I stayed that way, in excruciating pain, but calm curled up on my side for about 2 hours. By this point it was 1am, and I still had not progressed at all, despite the severe and frequent contracting. I was still sitting at 7, and Thoren's head was beginning to swell. That was all I needed to hear. I consented to an emergency c section at 2, was in the OR being prepped by 2:30am, thank goodness the spinal block worked, and at 3:09am Thoren was out. They showed him to us before checking him over and the problem was immediately apparent. Turns out that a he was much too big for my body to birth, and b the entered the birth canal tilted. So there is no way he would have made it without the c section. Poor little guy looked like an egg plant when they got him out. Bright purple and that was basically the shape of his head. Despite all of that, my 8 pound, 12 ounce, 21 inch long, little guy is absolutely perfect and we are so in love. He's extremely healthy and is passing all his tests great. I am so grateful my husband was here, I don't know how I would have survived 30 hours on induction meds the started the pitocin after the foley, 18 hours of labor, 7 hours of agony, and a shotgun c section without him there. Certainly didn't wind up being even close to my birth plan, but in the end our son is here and is perfect, so I'm okay. He nurses like a champ already and is very mellow. : My perfect little man.

  • Congrats! Sorry it didn't go so smoothly but I know none of that matters now that he's here and healthy!

  • Congratulations mama! So glad dad was there! Your story sounds similar to mine but we went to a section much quicker due to fetal distress. His HR dropped and they were afraid he wouldn't tolerate being pushed. The OB that delivered him said congrats on your toddler and I never would have been able to push him out at that size. I wasn't happy with the section at first but I'm slowly getting over it.

My advice is start taking stool softener now and ask about a belly support band. The more you walk around the better you will feel and do not lapse on your pain meds or it will be he'll when you get up
