High-Risk Pregnancy

GD Vent

I feel SOOO bad venting because GD isn't all that bad but my fingers. I am running out of places to poke that I can get enough blood from. My fingers are so callused and dry from the winter that its getting so hard to find a place to poke.

Again its not a big deal and I am so close to my due date but I am very glad to be close to the end and would even go as far as saying getting GD has really made me realize how I need to do everything possible to make sure I don't develop Diabetes in the future.

  • I hear you. I feel the same. Overall I have started to regard the GD diagnosis as a blessing in disguise but my poor fingers are starting to really be sore. 3 more weeks at most for me, thank God!

  • My fingers are mostly over the soreness at this point but yes! So many pricks (6/day) and only so many fingers! For most of the time I refused to use my pinkies because it hurt so much more, now I'm using them again, and my thumbs. I swear the little scab marks on my fingers never go away! Getting a manicure helped with the calluses.

  • I totally hear you.  And agree with the PP about the blessing in disguise.  DH and I have totally changed our eating habits and we've both lost weight and feel healthier.

Have you tried the sides of your fingers?  I find it's far less painful to prick there.

You are so close (we all are!) so just push through for now this will soon be ancient history!

  • I found with my last pregnancy and that running my hands under hot water and going for a side poke was easier on my finger tips and resulted in enough blood.

This, exactly!!! (For some reason, my fingers just really didn't like to bleed sometimes; particularly for the first morning testing. I guess bad circulation, maybe? I don't know. But every morning, that's exactly what I had to do!
