Infertility

Infertility Referral after 3 years of ttc. What can we expect?

Hi, hoping there's some people who can help me.

After 3 years of ttc and all the blood tests, x-rays, sperm tests, my doctor has now referred us to the gynaecology department. It's just after 3 years of trying I would really like my own baby, I see all my friends and family with babies and as happy I am for them it hurts a tad esp knowing we were trying before them and nothing

What are we to expect at the visit? All is fine with both my partner and I.

  • Welcome! Sorry about your struggles. Can you give us any more info about you? Your age? Which blood tests? What type of X-rays? This was your primary care doctor ordering these tests? Do you regularly see an gynecologist that has already physically examined you?

That being said, after 3 years of ttc, I would consider skipping the gynecologist and going straight to a fertility specialist or reproductive endocrinologist, they will be much more helpful. I wouldn't waste anymore time going to any other doctor, I sure wish I hadn't.

  • HI, the blood test was to confirmI do ovulate (which I do) the internal x ray was to check for any blockage is my tubes (which there was not) my partner's sperm count was fine. I am 33 and my partner just turned 31, it is my GP who has referred to the  gynecologist on the NHS. We'd just love our own little bundel of joy now
  • I second finding a reproductive endocrinologist RE. An ob/gyn's job is to keep you healthy during pregnancy. A RE's job is to get you pregnant.

  • Hi! I'm sorry you have to be here but this board is great.

Are you from the UK? Does the NHS require you to follow all these steps in order to be insured? I mean GP > Ob/Gyn > fertility specialist?

If not, I totally second the pps and would recommend you to go straight to a fertility specialist.

Good luck! I hope you find some answers.
