Third-Party Reproduction

Hi Ladies, I'm Tracy!

Hi all,

I'm Tracy.  I'm 36, DH is 50.  He has 24-year-old daughter from a previous marriage.  We are currently expecting our first together, a daughter we're naming Carly Marie, on April 24.  I, however, am not pregnant.

I have a condition called Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS), and it can get much, much worse with pregnancy (and stay that way permanently.)  If I can't lift my arms or walk, I can't take of a baby.  It's already that way at times, but I have help for those times when my condition flares.  I can't risk it being becoming a permanent problem that would prevent me from caring for her.  And to top it off, DH had a vasectomy.

So that pretty much left us with adoption, and the cost was a bit prohibitive...until my best friend (who is 36) offered to be our surrogate!  I call her "B" on the boards.  She is the bio and we used donor sperm.  To use my egg, I would have had to  take all kinds of meds that would mess with my body and could make the HS worse.  To use DH's sperm, we would have had to do TESE, then IVF with ICSI.  That would have cost in the tens of thousands, and is of course not guaranteed to work.

So in the end, we went with B as the traditional surrogate and we used donor sperm from a Cryobank.  After the second natural cycle IUI at Jones, we got our BFP!  We will be completing a standard adoption with home study.  B will be "Aunt B" to Carly, and will be as involved in our lives as before (which is to say a LOT.  She is more like my sister than my own sister is.)  Her husband will be "Uncle J."  We've given B's teenage daughter the choice of what kind of relationship she wants to have with Carly.

B is currently 26 weeks, and I have plenty of fears.  Will Carly understand/accept the way we brought her into this world?  Will she resent us?  Will she ever truly understand how much she was wanted, planned, and adored?

I'm really so glad to have this board and all you ladies now!  My BMB is awesome and amazing, and they accepted me even though I'm not the one expecting.  Still, it's so nice to have this place...this community of women who know about this journey!  Look forward to getting to know all of you better!

One of my best friends ("B") offered to be our surrogate, and we're now expecting a baby in April 2013 after two cycles of natural IUI at the Jones Institute. For medical reasons, we are not biologically related to our unborn child. Yes, I guess that makes this a "planned adoption."

I'm so glad we all have this board and one another to support each other through such an new and uncharted world. I look forward to getting to know you!
