GTKY: What helps you dig a little deeper when you'd rather just go grab a donut?

Re: Fit Mama Friday

  • We're still doing Insanity. It is still very, very hard. I wound up skipping it Wednesday b/c I felt like crud, so I'm going to try to catch up and do 2 workouts tomorrow. Yikes. My right knee is not very happy about all of this. It sounds too much like work.

I have to say when I feel like flaking on a workout, the right music can really help. I love "Crystallize" for stretching, and for aerobic-type work, I like "Let's Go,"  "Stronger," and "Turn Me On."

  • I got up every morning except this morning to exercise. I'm doing a Jillian Michaels 30 day shred and Zumba. I try for at least 45 min on days I have to work and an hour minimum on days I have off. If I'm really not motivated I just do the Zumba for longer because I actually love doing it. I'm doing a 1200 calorie diet and as long as I don't get lazy in the morning and pick up subway for breakfast I do fine. I lost 5 lbs since starting just over two weeks ago.
  • It going ok. Lost 3lbs since new years.

I was doing well until yesterday when the healthy dinner I was making in a ceramic baker exploded in the oven and ruined everything! I sent DH out for hamburgers. Thats a justifiable cheat day right?!

  • Can I join? I don't have time to work out although I need to find the time, so I am just on a serious eating healthy kick. I joined ww for a month but quit and am now using my fitness pal, which has an awesome iPhone ap, better than ww! I find that tracking my eating is totally what makes me say no to something like a donut. When I search an unhealthy food in my fitness pal ap and see how many calories it would be out of my daily allotment, it makes it easy to say no.

Can't say enough good stuff about my fitness pal... It takes into account increased calorie needs for bf too. I've lost 14 ps. 3 to go to goal, but I might go for a full 20 depending on how it keeps going!

I have this app too. Just got it. So far do good. I think you're right about the having to record it or just say no.
  • I've been doing well. Still eating veggies fruits means cheese and nuts and exercising at my new gym. When I wanna grab a donut I just think about how hard I've been working and don't want to backslide. I have no will power so one is always at least two.

  • this week hasn't been great eating-wise, but I'm trying to get back on track! I have kept up my walkng at work, and am going to the gym tomorrow. I fit into my pre-pregnancy jeans now, so I think I'm doing ok!

Whenever I'm running & feel like I want to stop, I just keep saying "One more minute". Then repeat. I can usually get in an extra 5 or 6 minutes that way.

  • I did awesome despite not wanting to do anything this week! I finished week two of C25K this morning. I really had to push myself to do it because I have been exhausted this week. But now I'm glad I did and hope to keep it up!

GTKY: I tell myself it's only 30 minutes, I can suck it up for 30 minutes, and then that donut will be even better because I can enjoy a treat without the guilt!

Can you tell me where on the app it does this? I tried it once months ago and couldn't find that option. Or do you have to add it in yoursef? Thanks!

I'm definitely going to have to try this. I haven't changed my eating habits at all since DS was born, and I think that's what is standing in the way of me seeing good results from working out so hard.

I had to read in their forums to figure it out. It's simple though once you know what to do. Just search "breastfeeding" as a food. Many option come up bfing exclusively adds 500 calories, bfing an older baby adds less. You just need to add it as a food each morning and it gives you a negative 500 so you have 500 extra calories to eat.
  • Just sneaking in - but my fitness pal is amazing!  I'm really finding tracking useful.

As the pp said, search breastfeeding as a food, and it will show up as a negative calorie (based on different amounts of feeding - ie "bfeeding 3-5 times per day" is -400 cal).
