Do you regift?

Just curious. My DD got a tacky, dirty, out of season, wrong size regifted outfit from a store not even in our state. Im not against regifting if its actually clean and appropriate.

This is for all the caterpillars that never became butterflies. And for all the butterflies that never felt the wind in their wings. And for all the hearts that had hopes and dreams of a wondrous flight together.

Re: Do you regift?

  • No.  I don't regift.  I have never liked the idea of regifting.  I buy things for people that they might actually like.

  • With kids stuff or alcohol, yes.  That said, I wouldn't ever gift anything that wasn't in brand new condition and totally appropriate for the recipient.

I tend to buy popular toys (Duplo kits, play doh kits, etc.) when they're on sale and keep them in a closet.  If DS gets duplicate presents, I add them to our stash and re-gift at the next bday party or we donate during the holidays.

  • Never- I either donate it or give it away as a hand me down.
  • Sort of.  We generally just donate to the Salvation Army.  Sometimes if DS or DD gets a duplicate I will use it for the next year's Toys for Tots or Angel Tree.  But we have passed on a lot of clothes to people with tags still on them.  When DD was born, we received a ton of warm weather outfits in size six months.  She's six months now and (crazy warm January weather aside) isn't wearing warm weather clothes.  So they still have the tags and will be given to someone else.

  • Yes, if it is brand new, we have the item already and it is a hit in the house.  Must be all 3 or it gets donated or returned.

  • I guess I shouyld have been more clear. I was a tad insulted by this and yes I only regift if its brand new, we have it already, and its a hit toy.

  • Only if it's brand new and really only if it's a duplicate item that I can't return.

  • I'm guilty of regifting, but only if it's something I would actually buy someone for a gift. Ugly, tacky items get trashed.

  • I re-gift if its something we already have, the child would like and its brand new. I've gotten clothes that are already too small for DS that are totally adorable that I re-gift to kids that are younger than DS. I would never re-gift something that was tacky/used/I wouldn't want as a gift.

  • I only regift if it is appropriate.  For instance if it is something I think they will like.  If I don't know anyone that the item is appropriate for then I donate it.

  • LIke the others, if brand new & something useful. Basically only if it were something I already owned or for some reason couldn't use even though it is a good thing (I recently received a 2nd copy of a cookbook I already own & like but no gift receipt so I have no problem giving the other to someone if I know they like to cook & like cookbooks, etc).  For kid stuff, I would regift if my kid got a game/toy they already have & it is something good. For xmas I put this curious george book & CD set on their wish list & somehow it didnt get taken off when SIL bought it so I bought it for them too after I knew my family had gotten their gifts so now we have 2... to ship it back to amazon seems to be a  & waste of $ so I'm holding onto it for a good gift for someone. Also have a spare Memory game hanging out that I'll regift b/c it is brand new, appropriate to kids their age & we got it after my kids already owned 2 or 3 games like that.
  • If I can give it to someone who would actually enjoy it, then yes.  If not, I donate or unload it on ebay and put the money towards something more geared for the child.
