Day after Egg Retrieval

Everything went well and I am still in shock...I had 27 eggs retrieved!  Last time we had 19 which I was told was an awesome number.  I had really bad cramping yesterday but now I have woken up and it seems like it spread through my whole stomach. Now any pressure to my stomach (coughing, laughing, anything) it hurts pretty bad!  What is your experience with ER?  I don't remember it still hurting this bad the next day. Maybe it's because I had 27 removed!!

Re: Day after Egg Retrieval

  • I had 21 retrieved this cycle and it hurt a lot the day after. I was in pain for a good 3 days. I used the heating pad and just laid down for a couple days. Hope you feel better!

  • Is it just pain or do you have some bloat too? Did they say anything to you about OHSS? With that many eggs retrieved, you might need to start drinking some Gatorade just in case.

I hope you feel better soon!

  • Congrats on a great retrieval number!  I was in a lot of pain the day of ER and the day after I was still sore.  I also had pain with pressure like you said, especially when I sneezed.  Get lots of rest and FX for a great Fert Report!

  • Are you on the OHSS diet (electrolyte drinks only and lots of protein)?  If not, I'd get on that!  But I will say I felt crappy after ER and did not feel better until the day of transfer (we did a 5dt).  It was actually worst on the 4th day and I contemplated asking them if we should freeze and postpone, but felt totally fine the morning of transfer so I went for it.

  • Great numbers!! Have you gotten your fert report yet? If not FX for a great one! I haven't had my ER yet, should be in a couple days, but I'm already doing the OHSS diet because I have 40 follicles growing so you should definitely do Gatorade and high protein to prevent OHSS since they got so many eggs!!

Rest up and I hope you feel better soon. Grow embies grow!!

  • Congrats! I had 27 eggs too. I was in a lot of pain, but developed moderate OHSS after day 2 of ER. I was even following strict orders of a high sodium diet, 64oz of reg Gatorade and 110oz of H2O per day. They said some people inevitably develop OHSS. My ovaries were so large and I had so much fluid in my abdomin I was almost hospitalized. I guess it's really dangerous if you gain 3lbs or more of fluid in a day.

Good luck I hope you don't get OHSS.

  • I had 25 retrieved and that is exactly how I felt. It sucks! By day 4 I was feeling much better.
  • Thank you for all of your replies.  The uncomfortableness has not gone away yet.  Hoping I do not develop OHSS.  RE said I was fine.  If it doesn't get better by tomorrow when they call with my fertility report, I will say something again.  Drinking as much Gatorade as possible without going over 64oz!
