I have a carseat that I purchased from a friend that I trust. It's a Britax Companion, so sort of like the Chaperone but with a lower weight limit (22 lbs, which I didn't realize until yesterday). The seat seems to be in okay condition. It was, however, manufactured in January 2008, and she used it through two kids. It also doesn't fit in the car that well - our Jetta it either fits okay in the middle, or you have to move the passenger seat up, and the Mazda3 you have to move the passenger seat WAY up. I'm contemplating trading it in at the BRU trade-in event. I could get a KeyFit 30 for $145... but that would mean I've spent $200 on infant seats, since I paid her $60 for the Companion.
What would you do? ANy opinions? Keep the one I have and save that money for a convertible earlier than I'd planned, or go with the KeyFit and maybe get a couple more months of use out of it?

I agree that I would make sure the KeyFit works in your car before you make a decision.
If it fits okay in the middle of the Jetta, can you just use that vehicle when you travel together as a family? Whoever drives the Mazda can just use that whenever they're driving baby somewhere alone.

I recently purchased the Chicco KeyFit 30 and I too have a Mazda3 (2010). I can put the seat in the middle and I still need to adjust the passenger seat, also I can't put the handle back, it has to stay up in the locked position.
If I were to put the seat behind the passenger seat the seat would have to go way up and nobody could really ride in it unless they are sitting in the back.
