Meat?

I give Skyler chicken and turkey only.  I don't know why I'm against pork and beef, but until I figure out my reasoning of being for or against it I'm holding off.  Her pedi recommended that I wait until one to give her fish.  I am fine with this only because DH is allergic to shellfish so I'm hesitant, although I'm pretty sure she'll be fine.

So do you feed LO all meats including fish?

Do you give no meat at all?

Meat only, no fish?

Only fish?

I would do a clicky, but we don't seem to get along.

Re: Meat?

  • I'm the same way -- chicken and turkey only.   This is because that's mainly my diet. I don't eat beef or fish. I'd like to eat more fish but have never cooked it and am afraid to take the plunge.  (as a side note, if anyone has good fish recipes to get my lazy arse out of this rut I welcome them.)

I have nothing against giving her pork, I just haven't gotten around to it yet.

  • We do everything, but she hasn't had shellfish yet - no reason (we don't have a family allergy so our ped is fine with it), I just don't cook shellfish much.  She loves BBQ brisket!

  • Emily has eatten everything too. She likes meat, she doesnt seem to not like anything I have given her.

Everything I cook for us, she eats too.

  • I feed Addy any and all types of meat, including fish. She has had crab, fish, shrimp, ham, turkey, chicken... can't think of anymore right now. But I'm completely fine with her having anything that's a whole food. I see no reason to wait and we have no history of allergies in the family.

  • We very rarely eat beef so she's never had it. She loves chicken and turkey though!

  • We have given Julian everything except shellfish (only because it's not something we eat very often). Also, we almost never (as in, go months without) eat beef or pork, so while he's had both, it's not very frequent. It's almost always at someone else's house. He does eat poultry and fish on a regular basis.
  • We give Lucia everything. She's had all meats, within reason, we don't eat much duck or things like that, and any fish that we've had, and shellfish. She adores shrimp. No history of shellfish allergies in our families.

  • DS has had everything except shellfish (just because we haven't made it lately). I don't like fish very much and don't eat it unless DH makes me, so he's only had Salmon one time (he liked it). I love beef and don't make turkey that much (but he gets pouched turkey meals sometimes). Last night he had taco beef, tonight he had pot roast, and tomorrow I will probably make chicken. We had pork last week.

I am a little leary because I am basically allergic to the world, however, I don't need an epi pen for anything (yet). I have noticed my allergy to bananas increasing (my throat gets a little itchy) but I still eat them and DS seems fine with them. I haven't tried peanut butter yet, but he has to try everything sometime I guess...

  • Reece eats all meats except fish. He's had pork, steak, turkey, chicken and venison. He loves all of it. Fish I may try soon, I'm just nervous of allergies.

  • We're open to Sophie eating all meats. She's tried turkey, chicken, beef, hot Italian sausage, flounder, and salmon, and she loved it all. We haven't given her anything else simply because it hasn't worked its way into our rotation of cooking. We're mostly chicken and fish people here. I don't expect to cook a quail or a goose anytime soon, so she might have to wait on stuff like that. Wink
  • I don't make any fish but dd has had everything else including venison. Shes had more chicken than anything.

  • We have tried chicken, turkey, beef, ham, sausage, and pulled pork.  Abby hasn't had fish or shellfish yet.  We don't typically make fish at home and I've been leary of letting her try it when DH orders it out.  After her one year appointment, we will probably try fish but I would like to hold off until two for shellfish.

  • Ian has had it all...hamburger, steak, chicken, hot dog gasp, deer, pork tenderloin, turkey, ham, shrimp, catfish...yep, he's had it all! His ped said the only thing we'd need to lay off on is shell fish, but only if there's a known family allergy. He's had no problems!

  • I'm a vegetarian, have been for more than a decade, and my 2.5 year old and 11 mo have never had any of it. DD1 tried a piece of cod from DH's fish and chips, but didn't particularly care for it. I'm not entirely sure how I will explain my moral reasons for not eating meat to them while their dad digs into a steak, but if they are open to trying meat once they understand what it is, I won't fight it. Or maybe I can just talk my Midwestbred DH into going veg before they notice...sigh.
  • We're not doing meat at all. Mostly because everyone in the family is vegetarian and we'd have to go out of our way to get and prepare meat for her. And I have no idea how to prepare any kind of meat. When she is older and making decisions for herself she can decide not to be vegetarian if she wants.

  • DS eats everything. He hasn't had fish yet because we rarely prepare it, but I'm not against him having it. At this point, just about everything is game for him. The boy loves to eat :)
